Manga spoilers: This guide covers the Upper Ranks, including demons who take a position after its earlier holder is defeated. The Twelve Kizuki are Muzan Kibutsuji’s demon hierarchy; the six Upper Ranks are its more dangerous, more skilled tier. The ranks and their holders change as the story unfolds, so a cast list from one point in the series is not the complete succession.
Who are the Upper-Rank demons?
The Upper Ranks are numbered One through Six. A position can be held by a pair, as with Daki and Gyutaro, or pass to a successor. The table includes the holders and successors identified in the story coverage summarized here. Its power descriptions are deliberately limited to abilities established in the consulted summaries: the official anime-site cast notice dated February 18, 2023, names characters but does not describe their powers, while GamesRadar’s guide covers selected abilities and succession. The available descriptions do not provide a complete move list for every demon.
| Rank | Demon or holders | Power description established in the cited summaries | Succession note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upper One | Kokushibo | Not stated in the cited ability summaries. | No successor is identified in the account summarized here. |
| Upper Two | Doma | Not stated in the cited ability summaries. | No successor is identified in the account summarized here. |
| Upper Three | Akaza | GamesRadar describes hard-hitting combat and names an Annihilation move; the summary does not establish its exact mechanics. | No successor is identified in the account summarized here. |
| Upper Four | Hantengu; later Nakime | For Nakime, GamesRadar describes control of the Infinity Castle by playing her biwa. A power description for Hantengu is not established in the cited summaries. | Nakime takes the position after Hantengu’s defeat. |
| Upper Five | Gyokko | A Crunchyroll search summary attributes fishlike minions, a water-prison pot, and the ability to turn touched things into fish to him; the page body was unavailable for confirmation. | GamesRadar’s account says no replacement had been reported for Gyokko in its account. |
| Upper Six | Daki and Gyutaro; later Kaigaku | GamesRadar describes Daki attacking with her hair and clothing, and Gyutaro using poison attacks. A power description for Kaigaku is not established in the cited summaries. | Daki and Gyutaro share the rank; Kaigaku later becomes its new holder. |
How the Upper Ranks’ powers differ in the available descriptions
Daki and Gyutaro: a shared rank and two attack styles
Daki uses her hair and clothing to slash at opponents, while Gyutaro attacks with poison. Their shared Upper Six status matters: their confrontation is not simply a fight against one demon with one attack method. GamesRadar says their defeat required simultaneous beheading.
Akaza: hard-hitting combat
GamesRadar characterizes Akaza’s fighting style as hard-hitting and names an Annihilation move. That short description does not establish the technique’s mechanics, range, or full set of applications, so it should not be treated as a complete account of his combat abilities.

Gyokko: fish-themed abilities in a limited summary
A Crunchyroll search summary attributes fishlike demon minions, a water-prison pot, and turning touched things into fish to Gyokko. Because the page body was not available for confirmation, those points are a concise description of the reported abilities—not a verified, exhaustive move list.
Nakime: control of the Infinity Castle
GamesRadar describes Nakime manipulating the Infinity Castle by playing her biwa. This is a form of battlefield and spatial control, rather than the direct attack style described for Daki and Gyutaro.

Kokushibo, Doma, Hantengu, and Kaigaku: powers not detailed in the cited summaries
The official anime-site notice dated February 18, 2023, identifies Kokushibo, Doma, Hantengu, and the original Upper-Rank cast, but it is a cast announcement rather than an ability guide. The cited summaries do not adequately establish powers for these four, or a full account of Hantengu’s manifestations. Naming specific techniques or explaining their mechanics here would go beyond what those descriptions support.
How rank and succession work
The Upper Ranks form the top six positions within the Twelve Kizuki, but a rank number is not a universal verdict about how any two demons would fare in every matchup. Holders can change, and some fights involve unusual conditions: Daki and Gyutaro share a position, while Nakime and Kaigaku appear as successors to earlier holders.

- Hantengu holds Upper Four before Nakime takes the position after his defeat.
- Daki and Gyutaro jointly hold Upper Six; GamesRadar describes simultaneous beheading as the condition of their defeat.
- Kaigaku later becomes the new Upper Six.
- Gyokko is killed. GamesRadar’s account says no Upper Five replacement had been reported in that account; that does not establish what every later source or development may say.
Why some familiar Upper Ranks may be missing from an early cast list
The official English anime website’s February 18, 2023, cast announcement named Kokushibo, Doma, Akaza, Hantengu, Gyokko, Daki, and Gyutaro for a Swordsmith Village film promotion. It documents that promotion’s cast, not every holder across the finished story. Nakime and Kaigaku belong in a succession-focused roster because they later take Upper-Rank positions.
