On January 27, 2025, Selena Gomez posted an Instagram Story video in which she cried while expressing sorrow about immigration enforcement and its effects on Mexican people and children. News outlets reported that the Story was later deleted.
What Selena Gomez said in the video
ABC News quoted Gomez saying, “I just wanted to say that I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked, the children.” The outlet reported that she said she wished she could help. The video was accompanied by the words “I’m sorry” and a Mexican flag emoji.
The original Story is no longer available in the reporting reviewed here. These details and quotations come from contemporaneous news accounts, not an independently authenticated recording or official transcript.
Why the video drew attention
Contemporary coverage placed the post amid immigration enforcement sweeps launched by the Trump administration. CNN, in reporting syndicated by KEYT, said the sweeps had resulted in more than 1,000 arrests across the country. That is CNN’s reported figure at the time, not a current total or an independently verified count here.
