Scandoval is the name given to the 2023 affair involving Vanderpump Rules cast members Tom Sandoval and Rachel “Raquel” Leviss, which became public while Sandoval was in a long-term relationship with Ariana Madix. The discovery, the cast’s conflicting accounts and the show’s decision to resume filming turned a private betrayal into the central story of the show’s Season 10 finale and reunion.
What does “Scandoval” mean?
“Scandoval” combines “scandal” and “Sandoval.” It refers to the affair between Sandoval and Leviss, and the fallout for Madix, the cast and Vanderpump Rules. Sandoval and Madix had been together for nearly a decade; Leviss was their castmate and Madix’s friend. When did the affair happen, and when did it become public?
The reported beginning of the relationship and the date the story broke are different. Bravo’s timeline recounts the participants’ accounts that the relationship turned romantic around August 2022; Time describes the affair as lasting about seven months. These are reported recollections, not an independently verified chronology of every encounter.

How did Ariana Madix find out?
In Bravo’s recap of the participants’ account, Sandoval’s phone fell from his pocket while he was performing with his band on March 1, 2023. Madix found a screen recording of a FaceTime interaction with Leviss and confronted the situation. This is the discovery story as recounted by the show’s participants, rather than an independently witnessed account. Bravo’s timeline provides the account and dates.
How did ‘Vanderpump Rules’ cover the scandal?
The Season 10 finale
Season 10 had finished filming before Madix discovered the affair. Bravo says cameras picked back up to capture the immediate fallout; the Associated Press likewise reported that production resumed after filming had wrapped. The reunion
The three-part Season 10 reunion began May 24, 2023. Sandoval, Madix and Leviss had individual interview time, and the reunion presented their accounts of events and the fallout. Those accounts were not all the same; the reunion records what the participants said on television, not an independent finding about every disputed detail. What happened legally?
In 2024, Leviss filed a complaint naming Sandoval and Madix as defendants. The complaint contains allegations; a filing is not a court finding. The complaint alone does not establish the case’s final disposition. The complaint can be read for what it alleges, but should not be treated as proof that those allegations were established in court.

Why the distinction between accounts matters
Scandoval is often retold as one settled sequence, but the evidence described publicly comes from different kinds of material: Bravo’s account of what participants said about the relationship and discovery, the episodes and reunion themselves, and a later legal complaint. The reported August 2022 start is not the same as the March 2023 public revelation; cast recollections are not independent verification; and legal allegations are not court findings. Keeping those distinctions clear makes the timeline easier to follow without treating disputed personal details as settled fact.
The scandal also became a production event: the show resumed filming after the original Season 10 shoot ended, then incorporated the aftermath into its finale and reunion.
