There is no single best chatbot for every livestream. Start by checking that a bot supports your streaming platform, then compare the moderation, commands, engagement features, setup effort, and account permissions you actually need. Keep the platform’s own moderation controls and human moderators in the plan: a chatbot can help, but it is not a complete moderation system.
Choose by platform first
A bot is useful only if it works on the service where your audience chats. If you stream in more than one place, confirm support and setup separately for each platform rather than assuming that a feature available on one is available on another.
- StreamElements Chatbot: Its documentation describes support for Twitch and YouTube Live. Confirm the current scope in the service’s official help center before relying on it for a particular platform.
- Streamlabs Cloudbot: Streamlabs documents setup for Twitch, YouTube, and Kick. Its platform-specific setup instructions are in the Cloudbot setup guide.
- Streamlabs Chatbot: This is a standalone application, rather than the cloud-based Cloudbot. Streamlabs describes it as offering more customization and requiring additional setup.
- Nightbot: YouTube’s official tools directory describes it as a chatbot that automates live-stream chat moderation and other functions. The directory does not provide a detailed feature-by-feature comparison.
These are vendor- and platform-documented descriptions, not independent reliability ratings or hands-on test results. Check the product’s current documentation for exact support before choosing.
Compare the features you will use
Do not choose by feature count alone. A simple bot that reliably handles your repeat questions may suit a documentary discussion better than a more elaborate setup you will not maintain. Use this comparison to narrow the options:

| What to compare | Questions to ask | Documented examples |
|---|---|---|
| Moderation | Can it filter spam or apply the rules you need? What remains for moderators to handle? | StreamElements documents spam filters. YouTube provides native moderators, blocked words, held-message controls, and slow mode. |
| Commands and timers | Can viewers get recurring answers, links, or stream information without waiting for a moderator? | StreamElements documents custom commands and automated timers; Streamlabs Cloudbot documents customizable commands. |
| Engagement | Would games, points, giveaways, queues, or similar activities serve the stream? | Streamlabs documents loyalty points and chat games. StreamElements documents interactive modules, but its YouTube guide says some loyalty-related features are unavailable to YouTube accounts. |
| Setup and control | Would you rather configure a cloud dashboard, or is deeper customization worth extra setup? | Streamlabs characterizes Cloudbot as cloud-based and comparatively simple to set up, while its standalone Chatbot offers more customization and calls for additional setup. |
| Permissions and platform conditions | What role must the bot receive, and must the stream be live or public for setup? | Streamlabs’ guide calls for moderator permissions. StreamElements’ YouTube guide requires a public live stream and moderator setup. |
The feature and setup descriptions above come from vendor documentation; availability can differ by platform and can change. Review the current guides before authorizing a bot.
Use YouTube’s built-in moderation alongside a bot
YouTube’s native controls remain relevant even if you add a third-party chatbot. YouTube documents moderator roles, blocked words, slow mode, subscriber or member chat, and a setting that holds potentially inappropriate messages for review. Held-message moderation can be set to None, Basic, or Strict; Strict holds a broader range of potentially inappropriate messages. A channel owner or managing moderator must change automatic moderation settings.

YouTube cautions that automated holding is imperfect: “No system is perfect, but this feature can make it easier for you to moderate live chat messages on your live stream.” The statement refers specifically to holding potentially inappropriate messages, not to a guarantee that chat will be fully moderated. Use clear rules and human judgment for messages that need context.

StreamElements on YouTube
According to StreamElements’ YouTube chatbot setup guide, the stream must be public and live for the bot to join, and the StreamElements channel must be added as a moderator. The guide also says YouTube’s “Top chat” may hide bot messages; view “Live chat” when checking whether its messages appear.

Streamlabs Cloudbot
Streamlabs’ Cloudbot guide instructs YouTube users to add Streamlabs as a moderator in YouTube Studio. The guide also describes granting permissions to speak and remove messages where applicable. Follow the current instructions for your platform; a bot’s role determines what it can do in chat.

Run a short rehearsal before an important stream
Test the configuration while there is time to fix it, rather than relying on a bot for the first time during a live event.
- Confirm the platform and stream state. Check the bot’s current guide for your service and whether the stream must be public and live before the bot can join.
- Verify its role. Confirm that the bot appears with the moderator permissions required for the actions you expect it to take.
- Try the essential commands. Test the commands viewers will need, such as a link or an answer to a common question. Check spelling, responses, and links.
- Check timers and filters. Make sure timed messages appear as intended and spam controls do not block normal conversation.
- Confirm visibility in chat. On YouTube, check “Live chat,” since “Top chat” may hide bot messages according to StreamElements’ guide.
- Keep a human fallback. Have a moderator ready to intervene if the bot misses a problem or handles a message incorrectly.
Make the choice
- Choose StreamElements when its documented Twitch or YouTube coverage and commands, timers, spam filters, or interactive modules match your needs—and its YouTube limitations do not rule out features you require.
- Choose Streamlabs Cloudbot when you want the cloud-based option Streamlabs describes as comparatively simple to set up, and its documented commands, moderation, loyalty points, or games fit your stream.
- Consider Streamlabs Chatbot when you prefer the additional customization Streamlabs attributes to its standalone application and accept the additional setup.
- Consider Nightbot when you want to evaluate a chatbot listed in YouTube’s official tools directory, but compare its current documented features directly because that directory does not establish a detailed feature comparison.
- Use native YouTube controls either way if you stream on YouTube. A third-party bot does not replace moderator judgment or the platform’s own controls.
Or let it run in the cloud
If what you need is an always-on YouTube stream of uploaded videos—not a chatbot or a live camera feed—StreamNeo is a separate option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud.
