The Sunday, September 20, 2026, NYT Connections puzzle is #1197. Start with the spoiler-light clues below; the four groups and all 16 answers are farther down. Two dated guides agree on #1197 and the solutions, though another search result labels the same set #1298.
Hints for Connections on September 20
Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four, each linked by a shared theme. The categories generally grow more difficult and can depend on lateral or abstract thinking, not just literal word meanings. A 2024 study of Connections-style puzzles describes the task and its reasoning demands; TechRadar says the game is available through NYT Games on desktop and mobile.
- Yellow: Think of circular, flat items. Parade’s clue: “Like a frisbee.”
- Green: Think of things associated with a southern state. Parade’s clue: “15th state exports.”
- Blue: Think of films featuring bloodsuckers. Parade’s clue: “Blood suckers.”
- Purple: Add a word that rhymes with “chord.” Parade’s clue: “Ride the wave.”

Checking the puzzle number
TechRadar and Parade both identify the September 20 puzzle as #1197 and give the same four groups. An Anagrammer search result uses #1298 for that date but displays the same group set; #1197 is the consistent numbering in the two dated guides cited here.
