Brazilian-born creator Mila De Jesus, known for documenting her weight-loss transformation and sharing makeup tutorials, died at 35. Her family announced her death in January 2024, but the reports reviewed did not establish a publicly disclosed cause.
Who was Mila De Jesus?
De Jesus was a Brazilian-born social media creator who lived in Boston, Massachusetts. She shared her weight-loss journey on Instagram and posted makeup tutorials on YouTube. The Independent reported in January 2024 that her channels then had about 64,900 Instagram followers and 103,000 YouTube subscribers; those are historical counts, not current figures.
Her story drew attention in part because she spoke publicly about a major personal change. The Independent reported that she underwent bariatric surgery in October 2017 and documented her experience afterward. In November 2023, she posted a comparison of herself at 22 and 35, writing in an English translation reported by The Independent: “13 years between one picture… six years since a decision that changed my life in so many ways.” She also reflected on how people change, grow and learn.
What did her family say about her death?
Her daughter Anna Clara shared a condolence note on De Jesus’s Instagram account. The Independent rendered the caption in English translation: “I, Anna Clara, am posting this condolence note. We are very sad to hear of the passing of our beautiful mother. We appreciate all the prayers and condolences. Continue to pray for us. Thank you.” People en Español reported that the family announcement was posted on January 15, 2024.

De Jesus’s husband, George Kowszik, also posted a tribute on Facebook. In wording quoted by The Independent from a post dated January 13, he wrote: “I am not really good with words and talking here… I lost my beautiful wife and my best friend yesterday that I love so much for her. I don’t know what to say.” His reference to “yesterday” is consistent with January 12 as the date of death, which N+ and El Universo report.

Some secondary coverage offered different accounts, but none of the cited reporting establishes an official or family-confirmed cause. N+ reported respiratory arrest; El Universo relayed a “presumed cardiac arrest” account attributed to another outlet, and People en Español also referred to cardiac arrest as a report circulating in other media. These descriptions conflict and should not be treated as confirmed facts.

In October 2023, De Jesus discussed psoriasis on Instagram. The Independent reported that she said she had been dealing with it for three months and that it affected 80 percent of her body.
