Manga spoilers: Mahoraga’s signature power is adaptation. When it encounters an attack or other phenomenon, the wheel above its head signals that it is analyzing the experience and progressing toward a response. That response can take different forms; exposure does not mean instant or universal immunity.
How does Mahoraga’s adaptation work?
Mahoraga is a shikigami associated with the Ten Shadows Technique. Its defining ability is to adapt to attacks and other phenomena it encounters. The wheel above its head makes that process visible: exposure begins the adaptation, and turns of the wheel mark progress.
The process takes time. The manga examples do not establish a fixed number of turns that applies to every situation, and a secondary breakdown notes that repeated exposure to the same attack can speed adaptation. The important distinction is that Mahoraga has a broad capacity to adapt, not an automatic shield that makes it immune to anything on contact.
What can adaptation produce?
The results shown in the cited manga examples vary. Mahoraga may recover from damage, respond in a way that makes an attack easier to perceive or counter, or develop an offensive answer to an opponent’s defense. These are demonstrated possibilities, not a guarantee that every new attack will be answered in the same way.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Adaptation can also continue after an initial response. The account describes Mahoraga analyzing a phenomenon further and developing another answer. However, the examples do not settle whether it adapts to a single move, an entire technique, or a broader phenomenon in every case. Treating one successful counter as proof of complete, permanent immunity goes beyond what the examples establish.
What does the wheel do?
The wheel is the visible marker of Mahoraga’s adaptation process. It turns as the process advances; it is not itself the attack or the weapon. Because the process can take time and the phenomenon’s complexity matters, a particular number of turns should not be treated as a universal rule for how long adaptation takes.

What is the Sword of Extermination?
The Sword of Extermination is Mahoraga’s close-range weapon, separate from the wheel and the adaptation ability. A secondary account describes the sword as usually carrying positive energy, making it especially dangerous to cursed spirits. In the Shibuya battle with Sukuna, Mahoraga changes the sword’s energy in response to him. That is an example of its combat response changing; it does not establish that the sword universally nullifies techniques.
What the manga examples show
The following examples come from the manga: Mahoraga’s battle with Sukuna in Shibuya, the encounter involving Yorozu, and the later events involving Gojo. They illustrate different outcomes and stages of adaptation, but should not be collapsed into a single rule that Mahoraga immediately defeats any attack it sees.

| Example | What it helps illustrate | What not to infer |
|---|---|---|
| Shibuya: Sukuna | Mahoraga changes the energy of its Sword of Extermination in response to Sukuna. | That the sword is the wheel, or that it automatically nullifies every technique. |
| Yorozu | A further manga example of Mahoraga adapting to a phenomenon; the cited breakdown discusses adaptation as more than an instantaneous, one-step response. | That one shown counter proves universal immunity to all related attacks. |
| Gojo | A later manga example used to explain how adaptation may continue to develop a response. | That the precise scope of adaptation—move, technique, or broader phenomenon—is settled for every case. |
The cited secondary breakdown discusses these cases alongside manga chapters 118, 217, and 236. The exact general unit of adaptation remains unclear in that account, so the safer reading is to describe the specific response depicted rather than generalize it into a rule beyond the scene.
What to keep straight
- Exposure starts a process: it does not equal instant immunity.
- The outcome can vary: adaptation may support recovery, perception, defense, or an offensive counter.
- The response may keep evolving: an initial adaptation need not be the final one.
- The wheel and sword have different roles: the wheel marks adaptation; the Sword of Extermination is a weapon.
Where to read the source story
For the fights themselves, consult the official Jujutsu Kaisen site, which identifies the manga and links to its comics section. The series, created by Gege Akutami, began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in March 2018 and concluded in September 2024. The official site reports worldwide circulation of more than 150 million copies, including digital editions; that is a series-wide figure, not a Mahoraga statistic.
