How the Season 23 finale ended
ABC reported that Nix was eliminated before Roberts and Foster faced the final result. Roberts was then announced as the winner, with Foster as runner-up, according to ABC News and ABC7’s On The Red Carpet.
Roberts was described by ABC News as a 27-year-old physical education teacher from Meridian, Mississippi, and ABC7 reported that he is a father of three. Foster was described as an 18-year-old college student from Louisiana.
After his win, Roberts said, “I won for my kids. I won for my hometown. I won for the state of Mississippi,” according to ABC7’s report.

Votes and finale audience figures
Disney Entertainment Television reported that the finale received more than 26 million votes, an ABC finale voting record. That vote total is distinct from the television audience measurement: Disney reported 6.51 million Live+Same Day viewers for the May 18 U.S. broadcast and a 0.72 rating among Adults 18–49. Those are dated broadcast metrics, not streaming figures.
In the same ABC7 report, judge Carrie Underwood remarked on the uncertain outcome: “Didn’t know who was going to win because you don’t know. You don’t know what’s going on out there, but there was no wrong answer.”

Where to stream American Idol
Disney’s American Idol releases page says episodes stream next day on Hulu and Disney+. That general program information does not establish whether the Season 23 finale is currently available in either service’s catalog.
