Viewers accused Cher of lip-syncing during her December 20, 2025, Saturday Night Live performances, but the available reporting does not confirm how the vocals were produced. A commentator judged lip-syncing likely after reviewing the video; that remains an opinion, not confirmation from Cher, NBC, or the show’s music team.
What happened during Cher’s SNL appearance?
Cher was the musical guest on the December 20, 2025, episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted by Ariana Grande. It was her first time on the SNL stage since 1987, according to the Associated Press.
Peacock’s official episode recap identifies Cher’s songs as “DJ Play a Christmas Song” and “Run Rudolph Run.” The second performance featured Lenny Pickett and the SNL Band.
Why did viewers accuse Cher of lip-syncing?
Online reactions reported by Parade focused on Cher’s microphone position and apparent mouth movements. Some viewers alleged that vocals could be heard while the microphone was low or away from her mouth. Other reactions defended the performance or treated it as entertaining.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Those observations explain why the question arose, but they do not establish which vocal sources were used in the broadcast mix. A visible microphone or apparent mismatch in a clip is not, by itself, technical confirmation of lip-syncing.
Was Cher lip-syncing on SNL?
The available reporting does not verify whether Cher sang live throughout, used prerecorded lead vocals, relied on backing or support tracks, or combined live and recorded vocals. No confirmation of the vocal setup from Cher, NBC, or the SNL music production team appears in the sources cited here.

On December 22, SNL Rankings writer Hoyt Holmes said video review made lip-syncing seem likely. That is the writer’s interpretation; the piece offers no production documentation or firsthand confirmation. The most accurate answer is therefore that viewers accused Cher and a commentator considered it likely, but the vocal arrangement remains unconfirmed.
