Fátima Bosch Fernández of Mexico won Miss Universe 2025, the pageant’s 74th edition, in Thailand on November 21—17 days after a livestreamed confrontation with Thai national director Nawat Itsaragrisil. Bosch walked out of the November 4 ceremony after speaking up, and other contestants followed. The reported interval is 17 days, rather than exactly two weeks.
Who won Miss Universe 2025?
Bosch was crowned at the conclusion of Telemundo’s live broadcast from Impact Challenger Hall in Bangkok. The broadcaster reported that 120 women took the stage in the competition. NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises’ announcement named Bosch the winner of the 74th edition.
What happened at the November 4 ceremony?
The exchange and walkout
During a livestreamed sashing ceremony on November 4, Itsaragrisil reprimanded Bosch over alleged participation in local promotional activities, according to the Associated Press account. When Bosch spoke up, he called for security. Bosch then left the ceremony, and several contestants followed in solidarity.
The disputed insult
Bosch told reporters in Thailand, “What your director did is not respectful: He called me dumb.” Itsaragrisil insisted he had not used the word “dumb.” The precise wording is therefore disputed; the accounts should not be treated as a settled quotation from both sides.

How pageant officials and Mexico’s president responded
Miss Universe Organization president Raúl Rocha Cantú condemned Itsaragrisil’s conduct as “public aggression” and “serious abuse,” AP reported. In a video statement reported by NPR and republished by Oregon Public Broadcasting, Rocha said, “Nawat, you need to stop.” AP also reported that Itsaragrisil later apologized.
Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum praised Bosch’s decision to speak up. At a news conference, Sheinbaum said, “I like that she spoke up when she felt that was an injustice and that is an example,” according to AP.

Were the Miss Universe results rigged?
Separate from the confrontation, two judges left before the final, and one made allegations of rigging, AP reported. The allegation was denied; the reporting does not establish that the contest was rigged.
In its response, the Miss Universe Organization said: “The Miss Universe Organization firmly clarifies that no impromptu jury has been created, that no external group has been authorized to evaluate delegates or select finalists, and that all competition evaluations continue to follow the established, transparent, and supervised MUO protocols.” That statement records the organization’s position, not independent proof of how the judging process operated.
