Full spoilers for season 1, episode 5, “Vagrants.” The FBI mole is task force agent Anthony Grasso, played by Fabien Frankel. As Grasso secretly helps the Dark Hearts, Robbie Prendergrast’s attempts to protect himself unravel: Perry kills Eryn, and FBI agent Tom Brandis finally comes face to face with him.
Who is the mole in Task?
Anthony Grasso is the FBI agent leaking help to the Dark Hearts. The reveal becomes clear when he meets Jayson and helps switch back the phone connected to the failed sting. What had been an internal suspicion is now an immediate threat to the task force’s investigation.
Creator Brad Ingelsby said he considered the mole’s identity and chose Grasso because he seemed like “sort of a lapsed Catholic who still wants to believe” (Esquire, October 5, 2025). The detail connects the betrayal to the episode’s larger interest in faith: Grasso’s private doubts coexist with his actions against his colleagues.
Robbie’s position gets worse
Robbie is still trying to move the drugs he stole and determine what happened to Cliff. Eryn tells him that Jayson came home covered in blood and that she believes Jayson killed Cliff. Robbie is left trying to make sense of the danger around him while the people closest to the violence are no longer reliable sources of safety.

Maeve takes Sam to the authorities and cooperates with the FBI. Evidence from Sam’s bucket also connects Maeve and her family to the Dark Hearts, giving investigators a route into Robbie’s family circle.
Perry turns on Eryn
Perry kills Eryn after her betrayal. Her death makes the threat to Robbie personal and leaves him more isolated just as the FBI’s attention is closing in. The episode’s title, “Vagrants,” takes on a bleak edge: the characters are exposed, displaced from any dependable refuge, and in danger from more than one side.

Tom and Robbie finally meet
Tom visits Robbie’s home under the pretext of asking about Maeve’s father. Robbie recognizes the danger and takes Tom hostage in his car. The drive becomes a tense conversation about faith, death, family, and the choices that have brought both men to this point. Robbie eventually lets Tom go, but their encounter does not settle the conflict between them.
Actor Tom Pelphrey described the contrast between the men as one of faith: Tom is an ex-priest grappling with loss of faith and his understanding of God, while Robbie “in a strange way, lives in faith” (TV Insider, October 5, 2025). That difference gives the car conversation more weight than a simple exchange between pursuer and captive: each man is confronting what he believes, and what remains when the life he expected has fallen away.

Why “Vagrants” feels like a breaking point
The episode brings several threats together rather than offering Robbie a single danger he can solve. Tom is pursuing him, the Dark Hearts are closing in, and Grasso knows more than his FBI colleagues do. Ingelsby said he hoped viewers would feel, “This is about to explode,” and identified the final image as Tom and Robbie with guns drawn (Esquire, October 5, 2025). The cliffhanger leaves the confrontation unresolved at the moment their worlds collide.
