Public information offers only a limited, dated update: a January 2025 TIME retrospective said Myka Stauffer had not posted publicly since 2020 and that James Stauffer continued making automotive content on Stauffer Garage. Neither source establishes the couple’s current private circumstances or residence. Huxley’s present whereabouts and wellbeing are not reliably established in public reporting, and should be treated as private.
What happened in the Stauffers’ adoption scandal?
Myka and James Stauffer announced in 2016 that they were pursuing an adoption from China. They brought Huxley home in 2017, when he was two, according to TIME. In a video posted May 26, 2020, the couple said Huxley had been placed with another family. The video was later removed.
TIME reported that the Stauffers knew before the adoption that Huxley had an autism diagnosis. In the 2020 video, James said they encountered more special-needs-related challenges than they expected and said they had not been told about them. That is the couple’s account, not an independently established finding. At the time of the placement, Huxley was four and a half.
News coverage often called the decision “rehoming.” That was a colloquial term, not a neutral legal description; “adoption dissolution” or “placement with another family” more accurately describes what the couple announced.

What did the Stauffers say afterward?
In June 2020, Myka apologized and said she had been naive in the adoption process. She also said, as quoted by TIME, “I can’t say I wish this never happened because I’m still so glad Huxley is here and getting all of the help he needs.” The couple’s attorneys said the new placement had been chosen to meet Huxley’s needs, according to TIME and The Independent.
A sheriff’s office welfare check in 2020 was reported by TIME as finding Huxley smiling while sitting on his adoptive mother’s lap, and appearing happy and well cared for at that time. The office said it was closing its investigation with no further follow-up. This was a snapshot from 2020, not evidence about his current situation.

Where are Myka and James Stauffer now?
Myka Stauffer
TIME’s January 2025 retrospective said Myka had not posted publicly since 2020. That establishes the last public activity reported by that source, not her current residence, occupation, or private life.
James Stauffer
TIME reported in January 2025 that James continued automotive content on his YouTube channel, Stauffer Garage. SPEAKRJ, a third-party channel-statistics site, recorded activity including uploads in a snapshot dated September 19, 2026; its figures are estimates and may change. The snapshot listed about 1.29 million subscribers and 497 videos. Those metrics describe the channel at that date, not James’s private circumstances.

Where is Huxley now?
His current location, identity, family situation, and wellbeing are not established by reliable public information cited here. The 2020 placement announcement and welfare-check account cannot answer where he is now. Because he is a child whose private life is not a public update, speculation about his name, address, family, or condition should be avoided.
