Nathan Fillion plays Guy Gardner—not Hal Jordan—in Superman (2025). The “over a decade” framing comes from the headline of an interview about his Green Lantern work; the available reporting confirms earlier animated voice work but does not establish a complete project list or an exact starting date.
Which Green Lantern does Nathan Fillion play?
Fillion plays Guy Gardner, one of the Green Lanterns in James Gunn’s Superman. Guy is a different character from Hal Jordan, the Lantern who was selected to replace Abin Sur after the alien’s ring sought a successor. DC’s account says Guy was initially considered as a possible replacement, but Hal was nearer and received the ring; Guy later served as a backup Lantern. DC’s Guy Gardner overview traces his first appearance to Green Lantern #59 (1968).
Superman was DC Studios’ first feature film for the big screen. DC listed its U.S. release date as July 11, 2025, with the international release beginning July 9. DC’s official film page identifies Fillion among the cast.
Why is Guy Gardner known for his attitude and bowl cut?
Guy’s abrasive personality is part of the character’s comic-book history, not just a new screen interpretation. DC connects the sharper, rude version of Guy to his return from a long coma in Green Lantern #190 (1985). His ego, sarcasm and confrontational manner make him a deliberately rough-edged member of the Corps.

His bowl cut is another recognizable part of the look. DC says it developed over multiple issues and became a signature feature; Fillion advocated for keeping it in the live-action portrayal. The haircut helps make Guy visually distinct from other Green Lanterns, just as his personality sets him apart.
What is confirmed about Fillion’s Green Lantern roles?
The confirmed live-action role is Guy Gardner. In a July 2025 feature, DC said Fillion would reprise the character in Peacemaker season two and Lanterns. An August 2025 DC update described Lanterns as featuring John Stewart and Hal Jordan alongside Fillion’s return as Guy. That update projected a 2026 HBO and HBO Max window; it is a dated projection, not confirmation of a current release schedule.

Fillion has also voiced Green Lantern characters in animated projects, according to the summary attached to the title-matching Yahoo News interview result. That supports a distinction between earlier animation work and his live-action debut as Guy, but the available material does not identify a reliable, complete list of those animated roles.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does “over a decade” describe a verified timeline?
The duration is part of the interview headline, but the available sources do not independently establish when Fillion first voiced a Green Lantern or how many projects are included. The Hollywood Reporter’s July 7, 2025 video listing confirms that he discussed playing Green Lantern in Superman and moving from Lanterns to the film, but its description is not a transcript and does not verify the decade-long chronology. The Yahoo News page carrying the matching interview result could not be opened, so its summary cannot substantiate an exact start year or project-by-project history.
