October 2025’s U.S. movie schedule mixed theatrical premieres with streaming releases, limited openings, event screenings and re-releases. Notable picks included the sci-fi sequel Tron: Ares, horror films Shelby Oaks and Black Phone 2, dramas such as Blue Moon, and documentaries including Orwell: 2+2=5. This is a selected release guide, not a complete list, and the dates reflect plans published ahead of the releases.
October 2025 movie releases by date
The dates below are U.S. release listings from the Associated Press’s fall movie guide, published August 25, 2025, supplemented with the domestic theatrical calendar from Box Office Mojo. The AP guide is selective; theatrical calendars can also include event screenings and re-releases, not only new features.

October releases by genre and format
Genre is a useful way to narrow the calendar, but films can cross categories. The descriptions in the AP guide support these starting points:
- Horror: Shelby Oaks, Good Boy and Black Phone 2.
- Science fiction: Tron: Ares; Bugonia has an alien-conspiracy premise.
- Drama: Anemone, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You and Blue Moon.
- Comedy: Good Fortune.
- Documentary: Orwell: 2+2=5, Are We Good?, Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost and The White House Effect.
The month also included thrillers, action, anime, concert/event programming and the Avatar: The Way of Water re-release. For planning, distinguish the announced date from the type of release: a streaming premiere is not a theatrical opening, while a limited engagement or re-release is different from a wide opening of a new feature.

What the October 2025 dates do—and don’t—tell you
These are historical U.S. release listings, not a guide to current viewing options. A listed theatrical or streaming date does not establish where a film can be watched now, and the selections do not cover every U.S. release or international market. Release plans can change between a preview and opening; Sony Pictures Classics’ announcement, for example, specifically described Blue Moon as opening limited on October 17 before expanding nationwide October 24.
