You can use an NGINX RTMP relay as part of a continuous Hindi devotional music stream, but the exact setup depends on the NGINX distribution and the component that encodes or forwards your audio and video. YouTube supplies the ingest URL and stream key; for a supported encoder or relay, choose the RTMPS URL and port 443. Before going live, confirm that your music rights cover live streaming and any replay, test the complete signal path, and monitor YouTube’s stream health.
One important distinction: F5 documents installation and use of its NGINX Plus RTMP dynamic module, but that documentation does not verify a complete configuration for the separately maintained community nginx-rtmp-module or an outbound YouTube relay. The steps below cover the parts that can be established reliably and identify where you must verify your particular setup.
Check music rights before configuring the stream
A song’s devotional subject, Hindi lyrics, age, or availability online does not make it free to broadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for live content and archived material on Google services, including relevant music rights.
Check permission for both the musical composition and the sound recording. Confirm that the license covers the intended territories and use, including live streaming, archiving, and monetization where applicable. A catalog’s “royalty-free” label is not, by itself, proof that every use is permitted. YouTube recommends its Audio Library and describes public-domain works or music used with permission as safer categories; music advertised as free elsewhere can still be flagged.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can trigger a warning, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. If you have a license, the rights holder may still need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. An archived replay can also receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast ends. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
Understand the signal path and NGINX’s role
Think of the setup as a chain: a local or remote source supplies audio and video; an encoder produces a stream, or a relay forwards one; NGINX may receive or relay RTMP; and an outbound component sends the result to YouTube’s ingest endpoint. Which component encodes, whether the installed NGINX module can push onward, and whether that path supports RTMPS depend on the selected software and configuration.

Do not assume that installing an RTMP module automatically creates a working YouTube relay. F5’s NGINX RTMP module documentation covers the NGINX Plus dynamic module package, not a full community-module build and relay recipe. It does not establish community-module commands or a complete outbound YouTube configuration. Select a specific NGINX distribution, operating system, module version, and outbound RTMPS-capable process, then validate their compatibility before deploying.
Get the YouTube ingest URL and stream key
- Open YouTube Live Control Room. Create or select the live stream you intend to use, then locate its stream URL and stream key.
- Reveal and copy the RTMPS URL when your encoder or relay supports it. YouTube may show a standard RTMP URL by default; its RTMPS instructions explain how to reveal and use the RTMPS address. YouTube documents RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL and specifies port 443.
- Use the issued key with that stream. Do not substitute a guessed or hard-coded ingest server. The Live Streaming API exposes primary and backup RTMPS ingestion addresses and a stream name (key); use the values issued for the specific live stream and the relevant encoder.
- Protect the key. Treat it like a credential: keep it out of public repositories, screenshots, and logs, and store it in a protected configuration or secret store. If it is exposed, rotate it in YouTube’s live controls.
The exact field names and URL format on the sending side vary by encoder and relay. Confirm that your chosen component accepts the supplied RTMPS address, port, and key rather than assuming every NGINX module or build supports them.

Choose encoder settings and test the whole path
YouTube’s encoder settings guidance recommends choosing a bitrate that your actual upload connection can sustain, testing with representative audio and movement, and monitoring stream health. The published recommendations for RTMP/RTMPS list H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; frame rates up to 60 fps; constant bitrate (CBR); and a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, the guidance lists a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 kbps.
These are YouTube’s published settings, not a guarantee that every encoder, relay, module build, or combination supports each codec. Verify compatibility in the actual sending software. Start at a resolution and bitrate your sustained upload can handle with headroom; do not pick a bitrate solely because it is listed for a resolution.

Preflight checklist
- Confirm the complete path from source through encoder or relay to YouTube, including whether each component encodes or only forwards.
- Make a controlled private or unlisted test before scheduling a public stream. Use music and visuals representative of the planned broadcast.
- Listen for gaps, distortion, or unintended silence, and check that the video or still-image behavior is what you intended.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health status and observe what happens if the source or network briefly disconnects.
- Decide whether YouTube should retain an archive, and confirm that your music rights cover that replay.
Install the NGINX Plus RTMP module only if that is your chosen distribution
F5’s documented package is the NGINX Plus RTMP dynamic module, named nginx-plus-module-rtmp. For a supported operating system and matching NGINX Plus installation, its documented lifecycle is:
- Install the module package for the supported operating system and NGINX Plus version, following F5’s package instructions.
- Load the module in the main NGINX configuration context as shown in F5’s documentation.
- Run
nginx -tto test the configuration. Do not proceed if the test reports an error. - Reload NGINX with
nginx -s reloadafter the configuration test succeeds.
Those steps establish the module’s installation lifecycle only. They do not supply a verified RTMP application block, community-module build instructions, or an outbound YouTube push configuration. Do not copy a relay configuration from an unrelated NGINX version or treat an unverified directive as a tested instruction. For the community nginx-rtmp-module, consult its current project documentation and verify the build, directives, operating-system compatibility, and RTMPS-capable outbound process in the exact environment you plan to run.

Choose where to run the source and relay
The source and relay may run locally or on a server you administer. Whichever you choose, ensure the machine and network can sustain the selected stream and that the outbound process can reach YouTube’s issued ingest endpoint. A server is not mandatory based on the documented workflow; it is an operational choice for a setup that needs to run independently of a home computer. Keep rights scope, archive plans, operating-system support, module compatibility, and RTMPS capability in view when comparing approaches.
Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Recheck the URL and key shown for the selected live stream, the RTMPS scheme and port 443 if using RTMPS, and whether the chosen sender supports that transport. Confirm that each hop in the signal path is configured to forward or encode as intended.
- NGINX rejects its configuration: Run
nginx -tand fix the reported configuration or module-loading issue before reloading. Confirm that the package matches the installed NGINX Plus version and operating system. F5’s documented package does not validate community-module directives. - Stream health is poor or the stream disconnects: Reduce bitrate or resolution to a level the sustained upload can support, leave network headroom, and test again while watching YouTube’s stream-health indicator. Check the source, relay, and outbound connection separately to find where delivery breaks.
- The stream is interrupted after music is detected: Stop and review the match and your license. If the use is licensed, contact the rights holder about adding the channel to its Content ID allowlist; do not assume a live-stream license prevents automated interruption.
- The live broadcast succeeds but the replay receives a claim: Review whether the license explicitly includes archived distribution and resolve the claim through the applicable rights process.
