To keep Hindi devotional recordings on YouTube Live with MediaMTX, use a two-stage setup: publish an audio-and-video stream from FFmpeg to a MediaMTX path, then configure MediaMTX to forward that path to YouTube over RTMPS. The documented FFmpeg loop repeats one file, not a folder of bhajans; a multi-track playlist needs its own playback process. A continuous broadcast also depends on a host, network, monitoring, and rights to the material.
What this setup does—and what it does not
FFmpeg reads the media and publishes it to a named MediaMTX path. MediaMTX then forwards that path to YouTube using the current ingest destination and stream key from YouTube’s live controls. MediaMTX documents this forwarding pattern and cautions that its example ingest address can change, so use the values shown in your own YouTube account rather than treating an old example as current. MediaMTX: Forward streams.
The documented loop repeats a single file. It does not provide a playlist manager, crash recovery, monitoring, guaranteed uptime, or uninterrupted internet. Plan those parts separately if the goal is a dependable 24/7 channel.
Prepare the devotional program
Choose a source that includes video and audio
The outgoing program needs both tracks. MediaMTX warns that YouTube silently rejects video-only streams. An audio recording can be paired with a still visual, but the stream sent onward must contain a video track as well as audio. Check the actual output, not just the source filename. - 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Decide between repeating one recording and rotating tracks
For one MP4 repeated indefinitely, the documented FFmpeg example uses stream copy:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i file.mp4 -c copy -f flv rtmp://localhost:1935/mystream
Replace file.mp4 with the source file path and mystream with the MediaMTX path you intend to publish. The -stream_loop -1 option repeats the input; -re reads it at its native rate. The command publishes to the local RTMP listener. MediaMTX: Publish with FFmpeg.

This is not a way to rotate through a directory of bhajans or aarti recordings. For a sequence of different tracks, add a playlist playback process that outputs one continuous audio-and-video stream to MediaMTX. The documented example does not specify a playlist format, transition behavior, or restart position, so choose and validate those details for your own playback software.
Understand when stream copy may not work
The example uses -c copy, which avoids re-encoding but does not guarantee that every file will work with the complete MediaMTX-to-YouTube path. It is suitable only when the source codecs and container are accepted by that path. Test your actual file and YouTube preview before relying on a long broadcast. The referenced setup does not establish a recommended resolution, bitrate, keyframe interval, or transcoding command; check current YouTube guidance before choosing encoding settings.

Publish the stream to MediaMTX
- Start MediaMTX with its RTMP listener available to the machine running FFmpeg. The example uses
localhost:1935, which assumes FFmpeg can reach that listener on the same machine. - Run the FFmpeg command with your source path and chosen MediaMTX path. For example, use
mystreamin the publishing URL if that is the path configured for your stream. - Confirm the path is receiving media. MediaMTX documents FFmpeg as an RTMP publishing client; a client publishing to a URL path makes the stream available on that path. For a local diagnostic, its basic-usage guide also describes publishing a file into MediaMTX and reading the resulting stream. MediaMTX: RTMP clients · MediaMTX: Basic usage.
Forward the MediaMTX path to YouTube
- Get the current destination and key from YouTube’s live-stream controls for the broadcast you plan to use. The ingest address and stream key are account-provided values; do not assume an address copied from an old example is still valid.
- Add a forward destination under the relevant path in the MediaMTX configuration. The documented shape is:
paths:
mypath:
forward:
- dest: rtmps://CURRENT_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL#STREAM_KEY
This is an illustrative placeholder, not a literal destination. Replace the sample address and key with the current values supplied by YouTube, and make sure mypath matches the path receiving your FFmpeg stream. MediaMTX’s example uses the encrypted rtmps:// scheme and separates the key from the destination with #. MediaMTX: Forward streams.
- Treat the stream key as a secret. Do not include it in public screenshots, public configuration examples, or logs shared publicly.
- Check the YouTube preview or a test event and confirm that both audio and video arrive before depending on a long-running broadcast.
Plan for actual 24/7 operation
A loop option makes an input repeat; it does not keep the whole system healthy. The documented examples do not establish recovery behavior if FFmpeg or MediaMTX exits, the host reboots, or the internet connection fails. For a self-hosted setup, plan for a continuously powered host, stable network access, process supervision, restart handling, and a way to notice when the YouTube output stops. Test recovery deliberately rather than assuming the example command handles it.

Before streaming, confirm you have the rights needed for every composition, sound recording, image, and video in the program. A devotional subject does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast a particular recording or visual.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Common problems and what to check
- YouTube does not show the stream: check that FFmpeg is publishing to the path named in MediaMTX’s forward configuration, and verify the current YouTube destination and key in the live controls.
- YouTube receives no picture: confirm the outgoing path contains a video track. MediaMTX says YouTube silently rejects video-only streams, and a program also needs valid video rather than audio alone.
- The file plays locally but fails when forwarded:
-c copydoes not make incompatible codecs or containers compatible. Test the end-to-end path and consult current YouTube encoder guidance before selecting a transcode. - The same recording repeats but other tracks never play:
-stream_loop -1loops the one input file. Use a separate playlist source to create a continuous sequence. - The broadcast stops after a host or network interruption: the loop command alone does not provide end-to-end recovery. Check the host, process supervision, network, and YouTube event, then restore the publishing and forwarding chain.
Or let it run in the cloud
