To stream directly to YouTube, get the stream URL and stream key in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then enter them in your encoder. SRS does not issue YouTube’s key: it is an optional media-server layer, and a name such as livestream in an SRS address is not the credential YouTube provides. YouTube’s setup steps are the same for creators in India; check your own Live Control Room for account-specific prompts.
Get your YouTube stream URL and key
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and choose Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Open the Stream tab. Create a stream if this is your first one, or use the settings for the stream already loaded.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the control room. Keep the key private: it is a credential that lets an encoder send video to your channel. Never post it publicly or include it in a screenshot you share.
If this is your first time going live, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. That is a possible wait, not a promise that activation will finish within that period. Your account’s Live Control Room will show its status. YouTube also notes that default stream privacy settings differ for users aged 13–17 and those aged 18 or over, so check the privacy setting shown for your stream.
Enter the key in OBS or another encoder
- Open your encoder’s streaming settings and choose its YouTube preset if one is available.
- If you are entering connection details manually, paste the URL from Live Control Room into the encoder’s Server or RTMP server field, then paste YouTube’s key into its Stream Key field. Field names vary by encoder.
- Start streaming in the encoder. Check the preview and connection status in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, once the preview appears you may also need to select Go live in the control room.
Do not substitute an SRS address or stream name for YouTube’s key when publishing directly to YouTube. If you select an encoder’s YouTube preset, it may manage the server selection for you; follow the fields and prompts the encoder displays.
Use RTMPS for encrypted ingest
YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension of RTMP. Live Control Room may show an ordinary RTMP URL by default; use its lock control to reveal or copy the RTMPS URL. Confirm that your encoder supports RTMPS before selecting it. If connection fails, check that the URL uses the correct protocol and server; YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance also describes trying port 443 where needed.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Because the stream key is a channel credential, enter it only in the intended encoder and prefer RTMPS when supported. Do not share the key in chat, public documentation, or support screenshots.
What changes when you put SRS between the encoder and YouTube?
SRS is an optional real-time media server, not a source of YouTube credentials. An encoder can publish to an SRS RTMP endpoint; SRS can support media workflows involving protocols such as RTMP, WebRTC, HLS, HTTP-FLV, and SRT. In that architecture, publishing from the encoder to SRS and forwarding from SRS to YouTube are separate connections.

A versioned SRS v4 guide illustrates publishing with an address such as rtmp://localhost/live/livestream. In that example, livestream addresses a stream on the SRS server; it is not your YouTube stream key. The example demonstrates publishing into SRS, not a complete current SRS-to-YouTube forwarding setup. Consult the current SRS documentation for forwarding configuration rather than assuming the local publishing example relays to YouTube by itself.
| Approach | Connection path | What you configure | Operational trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct ingest | Encoder → YouTube | YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder; use RTMPS if supported. | Fewer components to configure and diagnose. |
| SRS relay | Encoder → SRS → YouTube | Encoder-to-SRS publishing, plus SRS routing/forwarding toward YouTube and its connection details. | Offers an intermediate media-server layer, but creates two links to configure and troubleshoot. The cited SRS publishing example alone does not establish a complete forwarding recipe. |
SRS documentation describes the project’s protocol capabilities and provides publishing examples; its current README identifies SRS/8.0 and includes a Docker launch example. A versioned example and the current README serve different purposes, so do not treat the old example as a guaranteed current forwarding procedure. See the SRS project documentation.

Encoder settings YouTube recommends
These are YouTube-published recommendations, not a universal preset. Your encoder, ingest protocol, chosen resolution, and hardware determine which options are available.
- Rate control: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframe interval: YouTube recommends two seconds and specifies a maximum interval of four seconds.
- Video codecs: YouTube’s published settings list H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, with frame rates up to 60 fps.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3.
- Transport: YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest; check that your encoder supports it.
Set the available options in your encoder to match YouTube’s current guidance and the requirements shown for your stream. YouTube’s full live encoder settings page contains its current recommendations.

India-specific checks before you start
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe the general workflow and do not establish a separate India-only stream-key process or eligibility rule. Use the prompts in your own Live Control Room to confirm whether your channel can stream and whether first-time activation is pending. YouTube’s published guidance allows for a possible activation wait of up to 24 hours.
- Confirm the stream’s privacy and schedule in Live Control Room before sending video.
- Keep YouTube’s key private and use the key associated with the stream you intend to broadcast.
- Check the channel’s live-stream status in YouTube Studio instead of assuming every channel is immediately enabled.
Troubleshooting connection problems
- The encoder cannot connect: Confirm you copied the URL and key from the right Live Control Room stream and pasted each into its corresponding field. Check for extra spaces or truncated characters.
- The stream appears in the encoder but not in YouTube: Check the encoder’s connection status and the preview in Live Control Room. If the stream is scheduled, use Go live in the control room after the preview appears.
- RTMPS connection fails: Verify encoder RTMPS support and that you copied the secure URL revealed by the lock control. Check the protocol and server in the URL; YouTube troubleshooting guidance describes port 443 as an option where needed.
- You cannot start a first live stream: Look for an activation or eligibility prompt in Live Control Room. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours; the figure is a possible wait, not a guaranteed deadline.
- You are using SRS but YouTube receives nothing: Test the encoder-to-SRS publishing leg separately from SRS-to-YouTube forwarding. A successful publish to a local SRS address does not by itself prove the server is forwarding to YouTube.
- Your key may have been exposed: Treat it as a channel credential. Do not reuse a key that is no longer private; manage or replace it through YouTube’s Live Control Room before sharing connection details again.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a pre-recorded video or playlist that should keep a YouTube channel live, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it also attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
