For a 1080p YouTube loop, match the stream frame rate to the source: start with 1080p30 for a typical 30-fps recording or slow-moving loop, and use 1080p60 only when the video has meaningful 60-fps motion and your connection can sustain the higher bitrate. For H.264, YouTube recommends 14 Mbps at 1080p30 or 17 Mbps at 1080p60. Use CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and enough upload bandwidth to leave about 20% headroom.
Recommended 1080p settings
YouTube’s live-ingest guidance, accessed October 3, 2026 (publication date not stated), varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate. These are encoder recommendations for a live stream, not bitrate settings for uploading a finished video file. Choose a codec only if the Restream encoder path you use supports it.
| Output | Video codec | YouTube minimum | YouTube recommended |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 | H.264 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | H.264 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 4 Mbps | 12 Mbps |

Choose 30 or 60 fps by the source
A still image, slowly changing documentary footage, or a typical 30-fps recording does not automatically benefit from a 60-fps stream. Use 1080p30 when that matches the source; choose 1080p60 when the original has meaningful 60-fps motion and your sustained upload can handle its codec-specific recommended bitrate. This is a practical inference from source characteristics and YouTube’s separate 30- and 60-fps ingest recommendations, not a comparative test.

Encoder format and audio
- Protocol: RTMP or RTMPS.
- Rate control: constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: every 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Video: H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1, subject to the encoder path’s support; YouTube lists frame rates up to 60 fps.
- SDR color: Rec. 709, 8-bit; use progressive scan and square pixels.
- Audio: AAC or MP3. YouTube’s listed audio guidance is 128 kbps stereo at 44.1 kHz.
These format values are YouTube’s live encoder guidance. A codec being listed by YouTube does not mean that every Restream workflow or encoder supports it.

Calculate upload headroom before starting
The connection must sustain the full outgoing stream bitrate, with capacity left over for normal fluctuations. YouTube recommends leaving 20% room. As a simple planning example, a 14 Mbps video stream needs about 17.5 Mbps of sustained outbound capacity to preserve 20% headroom, before accounting for any additional outgoing stream. Download speed does not tell you whether that upload capacity is available.
- Measure outbound upload speed under conditions similar to when the loop will run; do not rely only on the advertised plan speed.
- Add together the bitrate of every outgoing feed if your setup sends a primary and backup stream.
- Leave roughly 20% of available upload capacity unused. YouTube states that total stream bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends this headroom.
- If the connection cannot sustain the target, lower the bitrate or reduce resolution or frame rate rather than aiming for an unstable stream.
Set up the YouTube stream and check it before relying on a loop
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream and choose its visibility: public, private, or unlisted. Scheduling is available as a stream option.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder or relay configuration. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream. A reusable custom key can preserve settings between streams.
- Set the encoder to the resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR, keyframe interval, and audio format selected above.
- Start a representative test with the actual video, audio, and movement. Confirm that the feed appears in YouTube’s preview and watch stream-health indicators and messages before leaving it unattended.
- Choose latency with the audience in mind. Lower latency can increase playback buffering; for a loop without live interaction, minimizing delay may matter less than stable playback.
- Decide whether to enable DVR. It lets viewers pause and resume a live stream.

Make sure the video is suitable to stream
Technical settings cannot establish that you have the rights to a recording. Before looping a documentary, music, narration, or other material, check that you have permission to use every relevant component, including footage and audio. YouTube’s copyright and monetization rules are separate from encoder configuration; a technically healthy stream is not proof that a channel or video complies with those rules.

What to verify in Restream
The YouTube values above define the ingest feed; they do not confirm how a particular Restream account repeats prerecorded media. Restream’s current click path for looping media and its account or duration limits are not established by the cited sources. Before depending on continuous playback, verify that looping is supported in your current Restream interface or official documentation and check any applicable account limits. Do not assume a particular menu sequence or unlimited duration.

Troubleshoot common stream problems
| Symptom | Likely issue | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Unstable stream or interruptions | Outgoing bitrate is too close to or above sustained upload capacity, or the connection is interrupted. | Measure outbound speed under realistic conditions, preserve about 20% headroom, and lower bitrate or output settings if needed. |
| Video does not appear in YouTube preview | The encoder may not be sending to the intended stream, or its connection may not be established. | Check the stream URL and key, confirm the encoder is running, and review YouTube’s preview and stream-health messages. |
| Encoder rejects codec-specific settings | The chosen Restream path may not support that codec or setting. | Verify codec, protocol, and audio support in the encoder you are actually using; select a supported combination. |
| Playback buffers despite a connected feed | Insufficient or fluctuating bandwidth can affect playback; latency choice also involves a buffering trade-off. | Check stream health and available upload capacity, and reconsider low latency if viewer interaction does not require it. |
| Loop ends instead of repeating | Loop behavior or account limits may differ by Restream workflow or plan. | Confirm current looping controls and limits in Restream’s interface or official documentation rather than assuming continuous playback. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a computer or home connection to stay on, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist streaming to YouTube from the cloud. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The service loops uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a camera feed.
