If datarhei Restreamer shows an active local stream but YouTube says “offline,” check the outbound YouTube Publication Service and YouTube Live Control Room—not just the local preview. A running source or player confirms only part of the route. The video must also pass through Restreamer’s publication process, reach the correct YouTube event, and appear as an incoming feed there. If by “Restreamer” you mean Restream.io rather than datarhei Restreamer, its connection steps differ.
First, identify which Restreamer you are using
The name can refer to datarhei Restreamer, self-hosted streaming software, or to Restream.io, a separate hosted multistreaming service. The steps below focus on datarhei Restreamer, whose YouTube destination is configured as a Publication Service using a YouTube streaming ID/key. If you use Restream.io, check its own YouTube channel connection and status instead; do not apply datarhei interface instructions to it.
Also note where “offline” appears: in Restreamer, in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, or both. That distinction helps locate the failing part of the path.
Check the YouTube Publication Service and its outbound feed
- Open the active YouTube Publication Service in datarhei Restreamer and confirm it is configured for the intended YouTube destination.
- Verify the streaming ID/key against the intended YouTube stream or event. The datarhei YouTube guide says to enter a valid YouTube streaming ID and save the service.
- Look for publication activity and bitrate. Restreamer says the live-stream bitrate appears in its main window once the publication is connected. No displayed bitrate or active publication is a reason to inspect that service’s process details and errors.
- Read the publication process details and logs. A local player preview is not proof that this outbound process is working or that YouTube is receiving video.
Restreamer’s troubleshooting guidance treats video input, player streaming, and the Publication Service as separate areas to investigate. Check each independently rather than assuming a healthy local preview means the destination is healthy.

Verify the YouTube event and encoder feed
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and select the event you intend to broadcast.
- Check whether YouTube shows an incoming encoder feed or preview, and read any status messages or errors.
- Compare the event with the stream URL and key configured in Restreamer. YouTube’s live settings guidance explains that an encoder uses the stream URL and stream key to send its feed.
- If YouTube or the encoder reports a startup or key error, follow YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance. Obtaining a new key and updating Restreamer can help when the evidence points to a key problem; it is not the first fix for every “offline” label.
A YouTube event can be the wrong destination even when a publication process is running. Confirm the selected event and incoming preview before changing unrelated source settings.
Isolate source, process, and network problems
- Test with a virtual or test source. If it also fails to reach YouTube, focus on the Publication Service, its process details and logs, and the network path. If the test source works, investigate the original input and how it is transported into Restreamer.
- Follow the path in order. Check the video source, any hardware and network transport involved, and then Restreamer’s settings. Restreamer recommends narrowing the fault progressively rather than changing several parts at once.
- Check encoder health and connectivity. YouTube advises checking that the encoder is current, reviewing stream health and messages, and examining outbound internet connectivity if the encoded stream appears healthy.
- Compare evidence by layer. Record source/player activity and quality, Publication Service activity and bitrate, YouTube’s selected event and ingest preview, process errors, and outbound network health. This helps distinguish a local source problem from a destination or transport failure.
Collect useful evidence before escalating
If the status remains inconsistent, gather the Restreamer version, exact status text and where it appears, whether YouTube shows an incoming preview, Publication Service process details and logs, and a process report. Include destination settings only after redacting the stream key. Restreamer’s troubleshooting guidance asks users to attach a process report when opening an issue after the initial checks. Never post a stream key in a public issue or support request.

Datarhei’s troubleshooting pages may show interface labels that differ from your installed version; use the process evidence and identify your version when asking for help. Without the configuration and process report, the symptom alone does not establish a single cause.
End a live event in the right order
For a live event, datarhei’s YouTube guide advises ending the stream on YouTube first. Stopping it in Restreamer while the event is live may prevent YouTube from saving the DVR archive.
