Short answer: For a graphical setup on your own computer, OBS Studio is the most practical documented alternative: use Media Source to loop one video, or VLC Video to play a playlist. The latter still requires VLC installed. FFmpeg can loop an input from the command line, but takes more manual configuration. If you want the stream to continue while your PC is off, StreamNeo offers a hosted YouTube playlist service. No official source establishes that any local option will run well on every low-power PC; test your actual files, settings, connection, and machine together.

OBS documentation distinguishes its sources this way: Media Source handles an individual media item, while VLC Video can create a playlist. That makes OBS VLC Video a playlist-capable route, not a complete removal of VLC. OBS documentation lists Windows, macOS, and Linux support, and notes that hardware decoding can be used when available for supported media and suitable hardware. This does not guarantee a particular level of performance on a low-power machine. OBS Project: Media Sources.
Set up a local playlist with OBS
One video: Media Source
- Install OBS Studio for your operating system and open it. Create or select the scene you will use for the stream.
- In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Name the source, then select OK.
- In the source properties, enable Loop, choose the local video file, and confirm. Arrange and size the source in the scene preview.
- Configure the stream output and connect OBS to YouTube using the stream key from YouTube Studio. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Start with a private or unlisted test if appropriate for your channel, check that video and audio play as expected, and monitor YouTube’s stream health before relying on the setup.

- Install VLC as well as OBS. Match their architectures: OBS Project notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, select + in Sources and choose VLC Video. In the source properties, add the local files to the playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Check the playlist loop setting. OBS documentation says Loop Playlist is enabled by default in the documented properties; verify the setting in your installation rather than assuming it has not changed.
- Connect OBS to YouTube with the channel’s stream key, then test the complete playlist, audio, and transition from the final item back to the first.
The OBS documentation describes VLC Video as allowing a playlist of items, unlike Media Source. Source properties and labels can vary by OBS version, so use the current properties shown in your installation. OBS Project: Media Sources.
Use FFmpeg when you prefer the command line
FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 as infinitely repeating an input; 0 means no loop. This is an input-loop capability, not a guided playlist-and-broadcast interface. You still need to decide how to feed the media, handle its codecs and audio, encode or copy streams as appropriate, and send a valid output to YouTube. An infinite loop of one input also does not, by itself, arrange several files into an ordered playlist.

ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i "video.mp4" ...The ellipsis is not a ready-to-run broadcast command: the required encoding, audio handling, and YouTube output depend on the source and chosen settings. Do not paste a command with guessed codec or stream-key values into a live session. Consult the FFmpeg documentation for input-loop behavior and the output options you need to configure.
Meet YouTube’s eligibility and encoder requirements
Check channel eligibility first
- YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- YouTube says live content must follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, and streamers must be at least 16 years old.
- Use original or properly licensed material. A video being available to watch does not automatically give you permission to rebroadcast it. Copyright compliance and YouTube’s rules for live content apply whether you use OBS, FFmpeg, or a hosted service.

Match ingest settings to the video and upload connection
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS and describes supported ingest options including H.264, H.265, and AV1. It specifies up to 60 fps, CBR, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Recommended bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264, YouTube lists 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps, 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 6 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are YouTube’s ingest recommendations, not guarantees that a particular PC can encode reliably or that an internet connection can sustain the stream.
Set the output to a resolution and frame rate the source, encoder, and connection can handle. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and testing before going live; it also recommends using test content with audio and motion similar to the real stream, then monitoring stream health. A quiet still image may not reveal the same encoding or upload problems as a documentary with motion and sound. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Test your low-power PC before committing to 24/7 use
No comparative benchmark in the cited software or YouTube documentation establishes minimum PC specifications, power consumption, or a performance winner among OBS, FFmpeg, and VLC. There is also no basis here for promising a particular uptime or failure rate for local software. Your result depends on the combined workload and setup.

- Play the exact video or full playlist you intend to use, including its audio and the transition from the last item to the first.
- Test at the output resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate you intend to broadcast. Watch for dropped frames, encoding overload, stutters, and audio problems.
- Check upload capacity over time, not just in a momentary speed test. Leave margin below the available sustained upload rate, and inspect YouTube’s stream-health indicators during a realistic test.
- Run the chosen setup long enough to expose problems that may not appear in a short preview, such as a source failing to loop or a connection interruption.
- For a local method, remember that the PC and its network connection must remain available for the stream. A hosted option removes that requirement from your home machine but introduces dependence on the hosted service.
