For a nonstop YouTube stream that must play local videos in sequence and repeat them, vMix is the better-documented choice. Its List input is designed to advance through videos and loop back to the beginning. XSplit Broadcaster documents looping media slideshows for uses such as BRB screens and sponsor displays, but the available documentation does not establish an equivalent sequential playlist workflow.

What “nonstop” means in each application
vMix: a list can loop, but it is not a scheduler
In vMix, List is a single input containing multiple video files. With Auto Next enabled, playback moves to the next item; the Loop control restarts playback at the beginning after the last item. The guide says the list does not need to load every video at once, which can reduce resource use for larger collections. A List can also be used within a standard Playlist for more involved playback sequences.

These features support a continuously repeating sequence. They do not create a timed programming grid. vMix states that it does not support time-of-day scheduling or a full 24/7 television schedule; its Playlist is described as basic automation. See vMix’s scheduling explanation.
XSplit: slideshow looping and scheduled events are separate
XSplit Broadcaster’s official product page describes a Media Slideshow that can loop multiple images or videos for a BRB screen or sponsor display. That establishes a looping-media use, but not a confirmed counterpart to vMix’s sequential List input for a long video playlist. If that exact behavior is essential, verify it in XSplit’s free version or trial with the files and scene arrangement you intend to use.

The XSplit requirements page lists 500 kbps upload for its lowest streaming settings, while its product page recommends 5 Mbps minimum upload for HD stream quality. These refer to different quality contexts; do not treat the lowest-setting figure as adequate for an HD playlist stream. Check current requirements and your actual upstream connection before broadcasting.
How to set up a repeating list in vMix
- Prepare the files. Put the videos you want in the loop on the Windows computer that will run vMix. Confirm they play correctly and that the sequence is the one you intend to broadcast.
- Add a List input. In vMix, add a List input and load the video files into it. The List control guide explains its controls and file handling.
- Enable automatic advance. Ensure Auto Next is enabled so the input advances when a video finishes. The guide says it is enabled by default; confirm the setting rather than relying on a changed or saved configuration.
- Enable Loop. Turn on Loop so the list starts again after its final item. Test the end of the sequence before relying on the stream unattended.
- Put the input on air and configure YouTube output. Set up vMix’s YouTube streaming destination and start the live output using the stream key and event settings from YouTube Studio. Keep the key private and use the current YouTube workflow for the event you are creating.
- Observe a full pass. Verify that playback advances between files, reaches the last item, returns to the first, and produces audio and video as expected. A successful loop test does not guarantee that the PC, connection, or YouTube session will remain available indefinitely.
For a more elaborate sequence, vMix says a List can be used inside a standard Playlist. That remains basic automation, not time-of-day scheduling.
How to assess the XSplit workflow before committing
- Check the machine first. Confirm that the intended PC meets XSplit’s current requirements: the cited support page lists Windows 10/11 64-bit and 8 GB RAM as minimums.
- Set up YouTube output. Follow XSplit’s YouTube Live setup guide for authorization and output. The guide says enabling live streaming may require channel verification and approval can take up to 24 hours; check YouTube’s current account requirements before the planned start.
- Test the Media Slideshow in the intended scene. The documented use is looping video or images for BRB or sponsor display. Confirm whether it meets your actual sequence, transition, and repeat requirements rather than assuming it behaves like a playlist input.
- Separate event scheduling from media playback. If you schedule an event in YouTube Studio, separately verify how the scene and media begin and continue in Broadcaster. A scheduled event does not by itself prove that video items will automatically advance and loop.
What the software cannot solve for you
Media rights and YouTube rules
A playback or looping feature does not give you permission to stream the videos or music in your list. Use material you own or are authorized to broadcast, and check YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies for your use case. Do not assume that public availability, attribution, or a long-running loop makes third-party content permissible.

Reliability and unattended operation
Neither application can make a Windows computer, home power supply, internet connection, or YouTube session failure-proof. Plan for the machine to remain powered and connected, consider how you will handle updates and interruptions, and monitor the stream if continuity matters. The documented looping features are not a guarantee of uptime or automatic recovery from every failure.
