YouTube creators earn through several distinct routes: advertising and YouTube Premium, channel memberships and viewer purchases, Shopping, and commercial deals such as sponsorships and affiliate relationships. There is no dependable universal amount paid per view. Access depends on YouTube Partner Program eligibility, location, feature rules, and policy review; the amount earned depends on how each revenue route is calculated and whether viewers take part.
How YouTube monetization works
The YouTube Partner Program (YPP) is the platform’s route to its monetization features. Its earning options include Watch Page ads, Shorts Feed ads, YouTube Premium, channel memberships, Shopping, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks. AdSense for YouTube is Google’s program for paying creators who monetize through YouTube. YouTube’s YouTube partner earnings overview says, “There are no guarantees under the YouTube partner agreement about how much or whether you’ll be paid.”
Which YPP thresholds unlock monetization?
YouTube describes an expanded YPP tier that can provide earlier access to eligible fan-funding and Shopping features, and a higher threshold for Watch Page ads, Shorts Feed ads, and YouTube Premium. The following are the published thresholds on YouTube’s eligibility page, accessed October 3, 2026; availability, feature-specific conditions, and policy review still apply.
| Access level | Published threshold | What it can unlock |
|---|---|---|
| Expanded YPP | 500 subscribers, at least three valid public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days | Earlier access to eligible fan-funding and Shopping features where the expanded program is available |
| Higher YPP threshold | 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days | Watch Page ads, Shorts Feed ads, and YouTube Premium, subject to feature and policy requirements |
These are alternative paths where the threshold says “either”: the watch-hour route or the Shorts-view route. Reaching the numbers is not automatic approval; YouTube reviews channels against its requirements. Check the current YouTube Partner Program eligibility requirements for availability and qualifying activity in your country.

How each YouTube revenue stream pays
Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium
Watch Page ads can appear before, during, after, or around eligible public long-form videos and live streams. YouTube says a video is reviewed, and enabling ads does not guarantee that ads will serve. Creators who accept the Watch Page Monetization Module receive 55% of net revenue from Watch Page ads under the terms published by YouTube as accessed October 3, 2026. The Watch Page module also covers eligible long-form viewing by YouTube Premium members; Premium revenue is a portion of subscription revenue under the applicable agreement and module terms.
#1 Best Overall
Shorts Feed ads
Ads appear between videos in the Shorts Feed, and revenue is shared through a creator-pool allocation system after a creator accepts the Shorts Monetization Module. YouTube’s published figure is 45% of the revenue allocated to the creator from the Shorts Creator Pool—not 45% of an individual ad shown next to a Short. This is a different calculation from the Watch Page ad share.
Memberships, Supers, and Shopping
Channel memberships are recurring monthly payments from viewers in exchange for channel perks. Super Chat and Super Stickers are viewer purchases that highlight or decorate messages in live chat; Super Thanks is a one-time way to support eligible videos or Shorts. Under YouTube’s Commerce Product Module, creators receive 70% of net revenue from memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks, according to the terms published as accessed October 3, 2026.

Shopping is commerce rather than a standard ad rate. Creators can feature their own merchandise store and, when eligible, tag third-party products and potentially earn commissions. The commission arrangement depends on the relevant products and program; YouTube’s overview does not establish a universal rate.
Why there is no fixed pay-per-view amount
A view is not a fixed-price unit of income. Some views may involve ads, some may be Premium viewing, and others may not generate either kind of revenue. Shorts use a creator-pool allocation rather than assigning a fixed fraction of a neighboring ad to each creator. Memberships and Supers depend on viewer purchases, while Shopping depends on sales or commissions. Sponsorships are individually negotiated. YouTube’s stated revenue percentages also use different bases—net Watch Page ad revenue, a creator’s Shorts-pool allocation, and net Commerce Product revenue—so they are not directly comparable percentages of one common pot.

The official pages cited here do not establish a reliable universal RPM, average creator income, or guaranteed rate per view. Treat online estimates as specific to their stated channel, period, audience, and monetization mix rather than as a promise for your own channel.
Sponsorships and affiliate income outside platform shares
Creators may earn through sponsorships, endorsements, product placements, and affiliate relationships arranged with brands or merchants. These are commercial arrangements outside a guaranteed YouTube per-view rate; their terms are negotiated individually. YouTube’s paid-promotion guidance lets creators flag content containing paid promotion and describes a notice to viewers.

Material connections should be disclosed clearly, and local rules vary. For U.S. guidance, the Federal Trade Commission’s FTC’s Endorsement Guides: What People Are Asking gives the example of a review channel receiving free products and affiliate commissions: “You should disclose the affiliate relationship both in the videos and in the description near the links.” Creators elsewhere should check the disclosure rules that apply in their jurisdiction.

- Check YPP and feature availability for your country, then confirm the exact eligibility and policy requirements for the feature you want.
- Distinguish platform revenue from outside commercial arrangements: ad and Premium revenue, fan purchases, Shopping, and brand deals arise through different mechanisms.
- Do not forecast income from views alone. Track each revenue source separately and use your own channel data rather than treating a generic per-view figure as a guarantee.
- Creators may owe taxes on their earnings. Tax obligations depend on location and circumstances; consult your local tax authority or a qualified professional for advice specific to you.
Keep a YouTube stream running while you earn
For creators whose programming includes an always-on YouTube stream of pre-recorded videos, StreamNeo is a cloud service that loops uploaded videos or a playlist without requiring a home computer or connection to stay on. It is separate from YPP eligibility and does not guarantee monetization; stream content must still comply with YouTube’s rules.
