But vMix does not provide a time-of-day scheduler for a full 24/7 programming lineup. A scheduled YouTube event, a looping playlist, and an automated channel schedule are three different things.
What vMix can—and cannot—schedule

These distinctions matter for documentary channels: a scheduled event determines when a YouTube broadcast is planned, while a playlist controls what vMix plays. Neither, by itself, supplies a timed channel-wide rundown.
How to send vMix to a scheduled YouTube event
- Schedule the event in YouTube Studio. Create the live stream and choose the scheduling option. YouTube’s interface can change, so follow the current labels shown in Studio.
- Copy the event’s stream key. In vMix, open the YouTube Live destination and enter or select the key associated with that scheduled event. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send video to the stream.
- Start streaming from vMix. This sends vMix’s output to YouTube. Starting the outgoing feed does not itself publish the scheduled event.
- Check the preview in YouTube Studio. Once the incoming stream appears, select Go Live in Studio to make the event live.
vMix’s documented workflow allows starting the stream before the scheduled time, but still includes the Studio Go Live action. The documented steps do not establish that the event will automatically go public at its scheduled time without that action. See vMix’s YouTube Live guide.
How to loop videos in vMix
Use PlayList for a sequence of inputs
vMix PlayList can play multiple inputs sequentially and loop back to the beginning when the list completes. Its controls include item order, starting position, duration, transition, and transition duration. This can suit a continuous stream where the content simply needs to repeat, not begin at clock-specific times. See the vMix User Guide’s PlayList page.

Use List when you want a video list as one input
vMix also describes List as a way to play a video list as a single input, including loop and randomize behavior. The scheduling article notes that List avoids loading every video at once, which may reduce system-resource use. Choose based on how you want to manage and switch content; neither option is a time-of-day scheduler. Details are in vMix’s scheduling explanation.
If your lineup needs exact program start times
vMix’s knowledge-base article, last updated January 17, 2025, states: “vMix is primarily designed for live streaming single events and as such does not support time of day scheduling.” Its article mentions a third-party open-source project called vMix Scheduler, but warns it is no longer maintained, may not work with current vMix versions, and is not supported by vMix. Do not treat it as a dependable current solution without independently checking compatibility.

In short: use YouTube Studio plus vMix for a scheduled event; use PlayList or List for continuous playback without fixed starts; choose another verified scheduling workflow if your channel requires an automated, clock-based rundown.
