Audacity can assemble, edit, export, and locally loop podcast audio, but it does not send that audio to YouTube Live by itself. To broadcast, prepare the episodes in Audacity, then connect a streaming encoder to the YouTube Live server URL and stream key. If you want a stream to keep running without leaving a computer on, a cloud service is another option.
What Audacity does—and what it does not do
Audacity’s loop control repeats a marked loop region during local playback; it is not a YouTube streaming feature. The transmission step requires an encoder connected to YouTube Live. YouTube’s instructions say to enter the stream’s server URL and stream key in that encoder: YouTube’s encoder streaming guide.
This workflow therefore has two parts: prepare the audio in Audacity, then send it to YouTube using a compatible encoder. The exact encoder setup depends on the software and operating system you choose.
Prepare the podcast episodes in Audacity
- Import the episode audio. Open Audacity and bring in the existing recordings you want to include.
- Arrange the episodes in broadcast order. Put them on the timeline in the intended sequence. Listen through the joins and check for unwanted gaps, abrupt cuts, or overlapping audio.
- Decide whether to make one continuous program or repeat a segment. For a sequence of episodes, assemble the desired program and export the full mix. Audacity’s loop region is useful for repeating a marked section during playback, but it does not create an automated YouTube playlist.
- Export the audio if your encoder uses a file. Audacity supports exporting the full project mix, a selected region, or audio within the loop region. Choose the scope that matches what you intend to broadcast. Its export dialog provides format and audio options, including channel count, sample rate, and bitrate for supported formats. There is no single YouTube-specific Audacity preset established here; follow the current requirements of your encoder and YouTube workflow. See the Audacity export documentation.
To audition a marked passage repeatedly, select the loop region and press L to enable looping, as described in Audacity’s Playing and Recording manual. This only repeats playback in Audacity; it does not start or maintain a live broadcast.

Create the YouTube Live stream and connect an encoder
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream using YouTube’s current encoder workflow. Interface names and locations can change, so follow the current prompts in Studio and YouTube’s encoder guide.
- Copy the stream details for that broadcast. YouTube provides a Live server URL and stream key. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish or share it, and use the key for the stream you are setting up.
- Configure the encoder. If it offers YouTube as a built-in service, select that and complete its connection steps. Otherwise, enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in the encoder’s stream settings.
- Choose the audio source and start the encoder. Point it to the prepared audio or to a supported playback source, following the encoder’s own instructions. The sources here do not establish a universal audio-routing method, bitrate, codec, or resolution; use settings documented for your chosen encoder and current YouTube workflow.
- Check the YouTube preview before going live. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s workflow calls for waiting for the preview and then selecting Go live. Confirm that the intended audio is arriving before leaving the broadcast unattended.
- End the stream deliberately. Use the encoder and YouTube Live Control Room’s current end-stream controls. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that guidance does not establish the same archive outcome for streams lasting 12 hours or longer.
Check music, clips, and other rights before broadcasting
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. YouTube also warns that having a license may not prevent an interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted by the rights owner through Content ID. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams before broadcasting podcast episodes that contain music, clips, or other material you did not create.
Having permission to use material and having the channel allowlisted are distinct considerations in YouTube’s guidance. If a rights holder controls Content ID for material in your episodes, confirm the necessary permissions and ask about allowlisting before relying on a continuous stream.
