How to Set Up OBS for a 24/7 YouTube Music Stream on a Low-End Indian Laptop

You can use OBS to send a continuous music stream to YouTube, but a low-end laptop is not guaranteed to stay stable for 24 hours. Start with a simple static visual, 30 fps, a bitrate your internet connection can sustain, and a test broadcast before attempting a long session. Your exact safe settings depend on the laptop’s processor, graphics hardware, cooling, upload connection, and power supply.

Before you start: check the channel, connection, and music rights

  • Livestream access: If this is your channel’s first livestream, YouTube says enabling livestreaming can take up to 24 hours. Set it up ahead of time rather than waiting until you are ready to go live.
  • Upload stability: Run an upload-speed test and judge the connection by what it can sustain consistently, not just its best result. Other devices and network activity can affect the bandwidth available to OBS.
  • Power and cooling: A local 24/7 stream depends on the laptop, OBS, power, and internet all continuing to work. The available guidance does not establish a dependable configuration for an unspecified low-end laptop or Indian ISP.
  • Music permissions: Use tracks for which you have the rights and permissions needed for livestreaming on YouTube. The setup references below do not establish licensing requirements or predict Content ID outcomes.

YouTube recommends testing before a broadcast and monitoring stream health while live. Its encoder guide also gives service-side bitrate references; those are not guarantees that a particular laptop or connection can sustain the settings.

1. Create the YouTube stream and protect its key

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
  2. Create or schedule the stream. Set its title, visibility, and other stream details for the broadcast.
  3. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the setup. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen, publish it, or share it with anyone who should not control the stream.

YouTube’s encoder workflow covers stream creation and connection in the Live Control Room: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

2. Connect OBS and build a minimal scene

  1. In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Choose YouTube if it is available in the service list, or enter the server information YouTube provided.
  2. Enter the YouTube stream key. Keep it private; if it is exposed, replace or reset it in the Live Control Room before continuing.
  3. In the OBS scene, add only what the broadcast needs: a static image or simple visual source, plus the audio source that will play your music. OBS scenes and sources are the building blocks for combining images, text, and other media.
  4. Confirm that the intended audio source is active and that OBS is not capturing unwanted sounds, such as desktop alerts or a microphone you do not plan to use.

OBS documents its service/server and stream-key workflow in the OBS Studio Overview Guide.

  • Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
  • Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.

3. Choose conservative video settings

For music with a static or low-motion visual, begin with a modest output rather than encoding extra detail the scene does not need. Set the canvas to match the visual layout, then set Output (Scaled) Resolution to the resolution you intend to send. Start testing at 30 fps; OBS warns that streaming at 60 fps can be substantially more demanding. This is a cautious starting point, not a guarantee that every low-end machine will manage it.

YouTube’s H.264 encoder guidance gives these resolution- and frame-rate-specific bitrate figures:

Output Minimum bitrate Recommended bitrate
480p at 30 fps 0.4 Mbps 4 Mbps
720p at 30 fps 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 5 Mbps 14 Mbps

These are YouTube’s figures on its current encoder settings page, accessed in 2026; 2026 is the access year, not a stated publication year. Treat the table as a service-side reference. Choose a bitrate below the upload speed your connection can sustain reliably, then verify it in a real test. YouTube’s full live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guide includes additional formats and settings.

4. Set encoder, keyframe, and audio options

  • Protocol and video format: YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, or AV1 video. Select a format supported by both the YouTube workflow and the encoder available in OBS.
  • Rate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR), as YouTube recommends.
  • Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds.
  • Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio. For stereo, its recommended settings include 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps.
  • Encoder choice: If OBS offers a supported hardware encoder, you can test it. Dedicated graphics or media hardware may provide options such as NVENC, Intel QuickSync, or AMD VCE, but availability and results depend on the laptop. OBS’s x264 guide explains the encoding-load trade-off; do not assume hardware encoding will work better without testing.

OBS’s Streaming with x264 guidance describes how encoding settings affect system load. If OBS reports encoding overload, reduce output resolution or frame rate first; if that is not enough, lower the encoder preset.

5. Test the actual broadcast before leaving it running

  1. Start a test stream using the same scene, visual loop, audio source, encoder, and bitrate you plan to use.
  2. Listen to the stream itself, not only the laptop’s local playback. Check that the music is audible, the levels are not clipping, and the visual behaves as intended.
  3. Watch OBS’s status and YouTube’s stream-health messages during the test. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement like the real broadcast and monitoring stream health.
  4. Let the test run long enough to reveal recurring connection or encoding problems. If performance degrades, reduce the output resolution, frame rate, or bitrate and test again.
  5. Only after a stable test should you consider a longer session. OBS has an automatic-reconnect option in advanced settings, but reconnection is not an uptime guarantee.

YouTube’s recommendations to check upload speed, test the broadcast, and monitor health are in its encoder settings guide. A laptop-hosted stream still relies on the laptop, OBS, power, and internet remaining operational.

6. Know the archive limit for a 24-hour session

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A 24-hour session is beyond that stated condition, so do not assume YouTube will automatically provide one complete replay. If preserving the full broadcast matters, plan separate sessions or a separate recording/archive approach. The cited YouTube guidance does not specify all archive behavior for sessions of 12 hours or longer.
