To resume an ASMR YouTube Live stream after a Windows restart, set up three separate steps: Windows must launch OBS, OBS must start sending video, and YouTube must make the broadcast live. Configure each step, then test the full restart and confirm the result in YouTube Studio. An OBS window opening by itself does not prove that viewers can see the stream.
How recovery works
A restart interrupts the connection from OBS to YouTube. Recovery depends on distinct settings in Windows, OBS, and the YouTube broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup uses a server URL and stream key; OBS sends its feed to that endpoint; and the broadcast’s Auto-start setting determines whether the arriving feed makes the scheduled broadcast live automatically or still needs a person to click Go live. - Windows: starts OBS after startup or sign-in.
- OBS: loads the intended profile and connects to YouTube, then begins streaming if configured to do so.
- YouTube: treats the encoder feed as a live broadcast, either automatically or after a manual Go live action, depending on the broadcast settings.
Set up YouTube and OBS
- In YouTube Studio, select or create the intended live stream. Use the stream URL and key shown for that stream when configuring OBS. For returning creators, YouTube may load previous stream settings, including the key; check that OBS is connected to the intended event rather than assuming the saved setup is correct. YouTube explains encoder setup here.
- In OBS, save the YouTube connection and the correct profile and scene. Confirm the ASMR video and audio sources are the ones you want to resume. Avoid putting the stream key in a screenshot, public post, or script: treat it like a password. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Check the broadcast’s Auto-start behavior. OBS’s YouTube guide says a scheduled broadcast with Auto-start enabled can go live when streaming begins. If Auto-start is disabled, OBS can send the feed while YouTube still requires someone to click Go live. The scheduled-stream workflow also describes waiting for the preview and then clicking Go live. See the OBS guide. Decide whether you want the stream to become public unattended or prefer to review the preview first.
Make Windows launch OBS after a restart
Two community-suggested approaches are a shortcut in the Windows Startup folder and a Task Scheduler task. The available instructions do not establish one as universally better, and the exact behavior can depend on whether your setup runs tasks at startup or at sign-in. Choose the approach you can verify on your PC.

In either case, first confirm OBS can open the intended profile normally. Then configure the startup method you chose and test it with a deliberate restart. Do not assume that a successful Windows login or an OBS window means the YouTube broadcast recovered.

Decide whether OBS should start streaming automatically
Community posts report using the OBS launch argument --startstreaming to start streaming when OBS launches. The cited sources are community guidance, not a current official OBS command-line reference, so the argument is not a guaranteed instruction for every OBS version or saved profile. If you try it, check that it works with your installed version and test the complete restart path before relying on it. Startup discussion · OBS auto-stream discussion.
Starting OBS streaming and making the YouTube event live are still different outcomes. With Auto-start off, a person may need to click Go live in YouTube Studio even if OBS is already sending video. If the stream must start unattended, configure the scheduled broadcast accordingly and verify that behavior in a test.

Test the full restart and verify the broadcast
- Before testing, confirm the intended YouTube event, OBS profile, audio/video sources, and Auto-start choice.
- Restart Windows deliberately while it is safe to interrupt the broadcast.
- After Windows starts, check that OBS launched and is using the expected scene and profile.
- Check OBS’s connection and streaming status; then open YouTube Studio and confirm that the intended event is actually live. If Auto-start is off, check whether the event is waiting for a manual Go live action.
- If it did not recover, identify which of the three steps failed—Windows launch, OBS connection/start, or YouTube live status—before changing settings. Repeat the test after a fix.
This test matters especially after a power interruption. One OBS forum poster reports that a PC may boot before network equipment is ready, and warns that auto-reconnect may not recover from a failed first connection. That is an anecdotal failure mode, not a universal behavior. If you see it, test whether waiting for the network before OBS launches, or adding a delay or retry mechanism available in your setup, resolves it. The community discussion is here.
What happens to the broadcast and its archive?
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish whether a restart resumes the same broadcast or creates a separate archive in every case. After a restart, check the current event and any resulting archive in YouTube Studio rather than assuming either outcome. YouTube’s live-stream help.

Common restart problems and fixes
- OBS opens, but nothing is streaming: Windows autostart and OBS’s start-streaming behavior are separate. Check OBS’s streaming status and confirm the intended profile; test the community-reported launch argument only against your installed version.
- OBS is sending video, but the event is not live: check whether Auto-start is disabled. If so, the scheduled broadcast may need a manual Go live action in YouTube Studio.
- The first connection fails after a power outage: check whether the internet connection and network equipment were ready before OBS tried to connect. Test startup timing or a retry option if your setup supports one; the reported network-readiness issue is anecdotal.
- The wrong event or settings load: verify the selected YouTube event, server URL, stream key, OBS profile, and sources. Returning creators may have prior stream settings available, but confirm they match the current broadcast.
- The stream appears interrupted or the archive is unexpected: inspect the live event and archive in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s under-12-hour archive statement does not guarantee how a restarted broadcast will be represented.
