OBS Studio Settings for a 24/7 YouTube Bhajan Playlist Stream in India

A practical OBS profile and operating guide for looping an authorized bhajan playlist on YouTube, with upload testing, archive limits, and rights checks.

For an OBS-based 24/7 YouTube bhajan stream, start with 1080p30, H.264 CBR at 14 Mbps, a 2-second keyframe interval, AAC stereo at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps, and RTMPS—but only if a sustained upload test at the streaming location shows enough capacity, including 20% headroom. If it does not, test 720p30 at 8 Mbps instead. These are YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrates, not a special India setting or a promise that a particular connection will work.

Recommended OBS settings for a bhajan stream

YouTube’s live encoder guidance, checked in 2026, specifies settings by codec, resolution and frame rate; it does not set a separate bitrate for India. Use the following as a starting profile, then confirm it holds during a sustained test on the connection and equipment you will use. The official bitrate pages do not state their publication date.

Setting 1080p30 starting profile Lower-bandwidth profile to test
Resolution and frame rate 1920 Ă— 1080 at 30 fps 1280 Ă— 720 at 30 fps
Video encoder and rate control H.264, CBR H.264, CBR
Video bitrate 14 Mbps 8 Mbps
Keyframe interval 2 seconds 2 seconds
Audio AAC stereo, 44.1 kHz, 128 kbps AAC stereo, 44.1 kHz, 128 kbps
Ingest protocol RTMPS RTMPS

YouTube’s 2026 guidance recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed 4 seconds. RTMPS is recommended because it encrypts the stream to Google’s servers. YouTube’s published SDR guidance also lists Rec. 709 color and 8-bit. H.265/HEVC and AV1 are also listed for ordinary SDR, but H.264 is a straightforward choice for the profile above. YouTube live encoder settings

The bitrate figures are YouTube recommendations, not measurements of Indian ISP performance. YouTube advises leaving 20% upload bandwidth headroom above the stream bitrate. In simple terms, a 14 Mbps stream needs at least 17.5 Mbps of sustained upload capacity under that rule; an 8 Mbps stream needs at least 10 Mbps. Other household or workplace traffic and connection interruptions can reduce what is available in practice. YouTube’s encoder settings and bandwidth guidance

Configure the broadcast and connect OBS

Check that the channel can go live

  1. Verify the YouTube channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. YouTube lists both as live-streaming requirements. YouTube live-streaming requirements
  2. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room, configure the broadcast and retrieve the stream URL and stream key for encoder streaming. Interface labels may change; use the current Live Control Room prompts. Treat the key like a password: do not show it in screenshots, overlays or public documentation. YouTube encoder streaming help

Set up OBS output and video

  1. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube if offered, and enter the stream key—or choose the service’s recommended connection flow. Use the RTMPS ingest option when available. Keep the key private.
  2. Open Settings > Output and set the streaming encoder to H.264, rate control to CBR, bitrate to 14000 Kbps for the 1080p profile or 8000 Kbps for the 720p profile, and keyframe interval to 2 seconds. Encoder labels vary by OBS version and hardware; choose the available H.264 encoder and verify its rate-control and keyframe fields.
  3. Open Settings > Video, set the output resolution to 1920 Ă— 1080 or 1280 Ă— 720 to match the selected profile, and set the frame rate to 30 fps. Confirm SDR output is Rec. 709 and 8-bit where those controls are available.
  4. In Settings > Output or Settings > Audio, configure AAC stereo at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. Menu placement can differ by OBS version and selected encoder.

OBS’s available encoder controls depend on the version and on whether you use software or hardware encoding. The figures above describe the target stream sent to YouTube; check OBS’s current labels and confirm the outgoing stream settings before relying on them.

Loop authorized bhajan files in OBS

OBS’s Media Source can load local video and audio files, and its Loop property repeats playback when a file ends. The official Media Sources guide is dated 2022-01-11; check the labels in the OBS version you use. OBS Media Sources guide

  1. Add a Media Source to the scene and select the local video or audio file you are authorized to stream.
  2. Enable the source’s Loop property so playback restarts at the end. If you are building a playlist from multiple files, arrange and test the sources so the transition from the last item to the first is clean.
  3. Listen and watch through a complete loop, including the restart and any transitions. Check for silence, unexpected gaps, clipping, black frames or abrupt changes in level.
  4. Keep OBS and the computer running for the whole broadcast. A local OBS setup depends on the computer, power and internet connection remaining available; a single encoder cannot promise uninterrupted service through their failure.

Test upload capacity before leaving the stream unattended

  1. Run a sustained upload test where the streaming equipment will operate, not just on a different network or device. If the connection varies by time of day, test at representative times.
  2. Choose a profile only if the tested upload leaves YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom after accounting for other network use. If 1080p30 at 14 Mbps does not fit, try 720p30 at 8 Mbps and test again.
  3. Start a test broadcast and use the YouTube Live Control Room preview. Play audio and motion similar to the actual devotional stream, then inspect stream-health messages and confirm viewers can see and hear it.
  4. Before relying on continuous operation, test recovery procedures and, where continuity is important, consider a backup encoder. YouTube notes that connectivity disruptions can break a stream. YouTube encoder guidance YouTube live-streaming tips

Plan for archives and 24-hour continuity

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. That is the main trade-off with one continuous all-day or 24-hour broadcast: it can meet the always-live goal, but YouTube does not guarantee a complete archive of a session longer than 12 hours. YouTube: Archive live streams YouTube live-streaming tips

If a complete video-on-demand copy matters, plan shorter sessions and record locally as a backup. Monitor that the local recording file is growing; YouTube’s live tips recommend checking the archive file during the broadcast. A local recording also depends on having enough storage and a running computer.

Confirm music rights before broadcasting

Devotional subject matter does not by itself establish permission to stream a recording. Lyrics, compositions, arrangements, performances and sound recordings can have different rights owners. YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content; if it identifies material that remains in the stream, it may replace the picture, interrupt the broadcast or terminate it. Even if you have a licence for third-party material, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent interruption. YouTube live-streaming restrictions

YouTube’s terms require the provider to have necessary rights for worldwide exploitation, including music rights, and to comply with applicable law. Whether a particular recording is cleared for your channel, audience territories and use depends on its rights and permissions; YouTube’s platform guidance does not establish Indian licensing status for a specific bhajan. Check permissions for every recording and territory relevant to your broadcast. YouTube Terms of Service

Troubleshooting common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check
Stream health warns of instability or viewers see buffering Actual sustained upload is below the selected bitrate plus headroom, or competing network use/interruption is affecting the connection. Repeat a sustained test at the broadcast location, reduce to the 720p30/8 Mbps profile if needed, and retest with other network traffic considered.
YouTube does not accept the stream or it does not appear in the preview Channel eligibility, stream key, or encoder connection settings may be wrong. Confirm channel verification and restrictions, retrieve the current key and stream URL from the Live Control Room, and check the OBS stream service and RTMPS selection.
Video or audio stops at the end of a bhajan file The Media Source may not be set to loop, or the playlist transition has not been checked. Enable Loop for a single source, then test the full playlist boundary and audio continuity before going live.
Broadcast is interrupted after music is identified Content ID or other third-party-content enforcement may apply; a licence alone may not prevent a live interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Stop using material without confirmed rights; contact the relevant rights holder about permissions and Content ID allowlisting.
There is no complete archive of the 24-hour session YouTube may not capture streams longer than 12 hours. For a complete VOD, split the schedule into shorter sessions and record locally, checking that the file is growing.
The stream ends when the computer or connection fails A local OBS encoder relies on its host computer, power and network. Test a backup encoder or choose a cloud-based approach if the stream must continue while the local machine is off.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your authorized video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on. It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed. The same plan includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team.

Every slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding. StreamNeo’s first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide.
