To stream a continuous nature-video playlist on YouTube Live, prepare footage you have rights to use, connect an encoder to a YouTube broadcast with its stream key, and run a tested playlist through the encoder. A local computer-based setup gives you direct control but depends on that computer and its internet connection staying available. For a cloud alternative, StreamNeo loops uploaded videos to YouTube from its servers.
Before you set up the stream
Confirm that your channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, activation may take up to 24 hours, so check eligibility and enable it before scheduling your broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Prepare the playlist and clear its rights
Collect the videos in the order you want them to play, and check rights separately for footage, music, and ambient sound. Confirm that your permission covers streaming and any resulting archive in the territories where viewers may access it. Keep licenses or other permission records. If a rights owner uses Content ID, ask whether your channel needs to be allowlisted—even licensed material may still trigger a match.
YouTube states in its livestream terms and conditions: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.”

Set up a local encoder
This route uses encoder software on a computer to send your playlist to YouTube. You choose the playlist and settings, but the computer, source files, encoder, and network all need to remain available while it runs. Exact controls differ by encoder; YouTube’s steps below apply to the Live Control Room, while encoder labels vary.
- Create or select a broadcast. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create a stream or choose the one you will use, and review its stream settings. For YouTube’s walkthrough, see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the stream settings into the corresponding encoder fields. The key is a credential that tells YouTube to accept the encoder’s feed. Keep it private like a password; do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control your broadcast. YouTube explains these controls in Manage live stream settings.
- Load the playlist. Add your prepared nature videos in the intended order and configure the encoder to repeat the playlist if you want it to continue after the last item. Check transitions and audio levels rather than assuming the playlist will behave correctly once live.
- Choose delivery settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension of RTMP, and recommends constant bitrate (CBR). Use supported codecs and the current resolution-specific bitrate table in YouTube’s encoder settings guide. For H.264, YouTube lists 8 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps and 5 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that your encoder or connection will remain stable. Choose a setting your sustained upload connection can support, with room for normal variation.
- Set keyframes and frame rate. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Its general encoder guidance supports frame rates up to 60 fps; match the output to the material and settings your encoder can reliably deliver.
- Test the complete path. Send a test feed, inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and check picture, sound, playlist transitions, and playback access. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend testing and monitoring the stream.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Start output from the encoder and confirm YouTube is receiving it before making the broadcast public or starting the event. Keep an eye on stream health, audio, and video while it runs.
Choose RTMPS or HLS
For a typical prerecorded nature playlist, RTMPS is the straightforward choice when your encoder supports it. HLS is another option for compatible encoders, but it sends video in segments and YouTube notes that it has higher latency. HLS also has specific delivery requirements: TS segments of 1–4 seconds, HTTPS POST/PUT, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments; byte range is unsupported. OBS is among the encoders YouTube lists as supporting HLS output. See YouTube’s HLS setup guidance.

Rights checks do not end when the stream starts
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, issue a warning, and interrupt or terminate the broadcast if the matched material remains or a strike is issued. A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption: the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and keep permissions for music, nature recordings, and footage organized.
Local encoder or cloud streaming?
| Approach | What it means | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder | You control the encoder and playlist on your own computer. | The computer, source files, software, and internet connection must remain available; test the full setup and monitor it. |
| StreamNeo | Upload prerecorded videos, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the videos from the cloud. | It streams to YouTube only. Review the service and its terms at StreamNeo. |
YouTube’s encoder guide also identifies a hosted service for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. That identification alone does not establish any provider’s current limits, availability, or terms. Likewise, YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not promise uninterrupted operation or settle a maximum runtime for this exact workflow; check the current platform rules and the capabilities of the encoder or service you choose.

Troubleshooting
You cannot start a live stream
- Possible cause: The channel is not verified, has a live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days, or first-time activation is still pending.
- Fix: Check channel eligibility and enable live streaming in advance; first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
YouTube is not receiving the encoder feed
- Possible cause: The stream URL or key was entered incorrectly, or the encoder is not sending to the selected broadcast.
- Fix: Recheck the values in Live Control Room against the encoder fields. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
The picture stutters or the stream health is poor
- Possible cause: The chosen bitrate exceeds what the connection can sustain, or the encoder is not maintaining the configured output.
- Fix: Test upload capacity, select a conservative bitrate within YouTube’s current recommendations, and run another test before going live.
The stream is interrupted for a copyright match
- Possible cause: A video, soundtrack, or ambient recording matched third-party content; a license may not have been paired with Content ID allowlisting.
- Fix: Check the matched material, confirm that your permissions cover the intended use, and contact the rights owner about allowlisting where relevant.
A playlist item has missing or unexpected audio
- Possible cause: The source clip has a different audio level, track, or format from the rest of the playlist.
- Fix: Preview each item and transitions in a test stream, then adjust the source or encoder playlist before the public broadcast.
