For a passive 24/7 YouTube loop, leave OBS’s Stream Delay disabled unless you have a specific production reason to delay the broadcast. It does not make a stream more reliable. Separately, choose Normal latency in YouTube Live Control Room when viewer buffering matters more than real-time interaction.
OBS Stream Delay and YouTube latency are different settings
OBS Stream Delay
OBS Stream Delay holds the outgoing broadcast at the encoder before it reaches YouTube. Find it at Settings → Advanced → Stream Delay. OBS also lists Automatic Reconnect in Advanced settings. OBS does not prescribe a standard delay duration for continuous YouTube loops, so there is no evidence-based number of seconds to enter for this use.
YouTube Stream latency
YouTube’s Stream latency setting governs the delay between the encoder or camera capturing an event and that event appearing for viewers. Configure it in YouTube Live Control Room’s stream settings; it is separate from OBS Stream Delay. YouTube describes Normal latency as appropriate for non-interactive streams and as the mode with the lowest viewer buffering. Lower-latency choices can make playback more prone to buffering, so choose them when audience interaction justifies the trade-off. Check the available modes and any resolution constraints in Live Control Room, since platform options can change. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings
Set up the stream for stability
Choose a sustainable video bitrate
YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations include the following minimum and recommended bitrates. These are YouTube guidance, not a guarantee of stability on a particular encoder or internet connection; select a rate your stable upload capacity can sustain.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Resolution and frame rate | H.264 minimum | H.264 recommended |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video with CBR encoding, up to 60 fps, and a recommended keyframe interval of 2 seconds that should not exceed 4 seconds. For audio, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 and recommends RTMPS where supported. Its system transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers’ devices and networks. Confirm the current encoder table before configuring a production stream: YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Leave upload headroom
Use stable upload capacity, not peak download speed, to set the encoder bitrate. YouTube recommends 20% upload bandwidth headroom; account for primary and backup streams where applicable. OBS’s 2024 connection-troubleshooting guide offers 75% of total upload speed as a starting bitrate when addressing dropped frames. Treat that as troubleshooting guidance rather than a universal target: OBS Project: Stream Connection Troubleshooting and YouTube Help: Streaming tips.

Checklist for a 24/7 OBS loop
- Keep OBS Stream Delay off unless a specific moderation or synchronization need requires it. If you enable it, test the actual end-to-end delay and recovery behavior before relying on it.
- Set YouTube latency to Normal for a passive loop when minimizing buffering is more important than live interaction. Select a lower-latency mode only when the interaction benefit warrants the buffering trade-off.
- Enable Automatic Reconnect in OBS under Settings → Advanced. Reconnect can help OBS resume after a connection loss, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted playback for viewers.
- Test the actual workflow. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and motion, checking the preview, and monitoring stream health and messages. For a 24/7 loop, test startup, viewer playback, reconnection, and recovery from a planned network interruption before leaving it unattended. If using a backup encoder, test failover too. YouTube encoder settings and testing guidance
- Monitor OBS and YouTube diagnostics. OBS identifies the route to the ingest server, local network, security software, VPN, and other system factors as possible sources of connection trouble. Check OBS stats and logs alongside YouTube stream health, and change one variable at a time; Stream Delay is not a fix for dropped frames. OBS Project troubleshooting guide
- Plan power continuity if the setup is local. A UPS for a dedicated PC and network equipment may help address power interruptions, but it cannot guarantee a continuous stream. Match its capacity and runtime to the connected load, and account for battery maintenance.
Plan the archive separately
YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. A continuous 24-hour broadcast exceeds that condition, so do not assume YouTube will provide a complete automatic replay. Decide whether to record locally, divide broadcasts into segments, or use another archive workflow, and verify current behavior in Live Control Room. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
Common problems and what to check
- Dropped frames: Check whether the selected bitrate exceeds sustainable upload capacity. Reduce video bitrate, leave upload headroom, and inspect OBS stats and logs plus YouTube stream health.
- Viewers buffer despite a stable encoder connection: Review YouTube’s latency mode. Lower latency can increase viewer buffering; Normal is YouTube’s stated option for non-interactive streams with the lowest buffering.
- The stream does not resume after a connection interruption: Confirm OBS Automatic Reconnect is enabled, then test the full recovery path. Reconnect is a recovery aid, not a promise of uninterrupted viewing.
- Viewers see the loop later than expected: Check both OBS Stream Delay and YouTube Stream latency. They are separate controls, and enabling OBS delay adds time before the outgoing broadcast reaches viewers.
- No complete replay appears: Check the broadcast length and your archive plan. YouTube’s documented automatic archive condition applies to streams under 12 hours, not a 24-hour continuous stream.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a computer or home connection to remain on, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops from the cloud, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and plays the upload as made up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
