They won the first series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in 2019. Their death was announced in January 2025; a coroner later concluded that they died by misadventure following cardio-respiratory arrest after ketamine use.
From the first UK crown to television and theatre
The Vivienne won the inaugural series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in 2019, establishing them as the show’s first UK champion. They returned to the franchise in 2022 to compete in RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars: All Winners, finishing third on Dancing on Ice in 2023.
Their work extended beyond competition television. They performed as the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz and as the Childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. To ITV, they described their drag style as “a Scouse wife who has come into money, she moved to LA and blew it all and then she’s had to move back to Liverpool.” ITV News reported their career and the initial announcement.
What was known when their death was announced
On 6 January 2025, publicist Simon Jones announced that Williams had “passed this weekend.” Cheshire Police said officers had attended an address in Chorlton-by-Backford, near Chester, and that there were no suspicious circumstances. The publicist did not state a cause of death at that time. ITV’s initial report described the death as having occurred over the preceding weekend.

What the inquest later concluded
At an inquest reported on 30 June 2025, senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish concluded that Williams died by “misadventure” after cardio-respiratory arrest following ketamine use. The inquest found no intent to take their life. The report identifies 5 January 2025 as the date Williams was found dead at home; the precise time of death is not established in the reporting. Sky News’ account of the inquest also reported that the family had said in March that ketamine use caused cardiac arrest and that they hoped to raise awareness.
A performer remembered beyond the headlines
Williams’ father, Lee Williams, spoke about their ambitions and their efforts to help their community and other drag performers. He described them as “an outgoing character who was full of life” who “just wanted to make people laugh.” He also said: “He achieved his goals. He had future goals he wanted to achieve. Along the way he always wanted to try to help his community, which he did and try to help other drag queens,” as quoted by Sky News.
