Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo run prerecorded video as a continuous YouTube livestream from an Indian cloud server, use an always-on Linux virtual machine (VM), an encoder such as FFmpeg, and YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion URL and stream key. Stage your video or playlist on the VM, configure the encoder to send a stable feed, and monitor the stream and process. A VM in India is a location choice, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service or sufficient network capacity.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and content rights
- Your channel must be verified and must not have had a livestreaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s current Help page also states that streamers must be at least 16. Check the current requirements for your channel in YouTube’s live streaming eligibility guidance.
- Use video and audio that you own or are authorized to broadcast. Being able to send a file to YouTube does not grant permission to stream it. Copyright claims or other restrictions can affect a live broadcast.
- Decide whether you will create and manage the event in YouTube Live Control Room or automate recurring broadcasts through the YouTube Live Streaming API. The API treats the incoming feed (
liveStream) and the viewer-facing event (liveBroadcast) as separate resources; its recurring-event workflow can reuse a configured stream with separate broadcast resources. See the YouTube Live Streaming API documentation.
Choose an Indian cloud region and VM
Choose an always-on VM by checking the instance type, service availability, sustained outbound network capacity, egress charges, and the recovery tools you can operate. The encoder must send the feed continuously; YouTube’s recommended bitrate is not proof that a particular VM can sustain it.
| Provider location | What the cited provider documentation establishes | Practical qualification |
|---|---|---|
| AWS Mumbai (ap-south-1) | AWS lists Mumbai as a region. | Confirm the VM types and network capacity available to your account and calculate current egress charges. |
| AWS Hyderabad (ap-south-2) | AWS lists Hyderabad as a region and indicates that it requires opt-in. | Check region access before building the workflow; availability is not a performance comparison. |
| Google Cloud Mumbai (asia-south1) | Google Cloud documents Mumbai for its Live Stream API. | Confirm that the VM and services you need are available in the selected location. This listing is not a benchmark. |
See the providers’ current AWS region list and Google Cloud locations. Neither region presence nor this workflow establishes which provider is cheapest or best for your workload. Compare account-specific pricing and test the actual instance’s sustained upload capacity.
Prepare the media and encoder
Stage a representative video or playlist
Upload the source media to storage the VM can read, or transfer it to the VM’s disk if its size and available space make that practical. Confirm the files are complete and playable, and check that the audio track is present. For a playlist, configure the encoder’s supported playlist or looping method and validate its behavior with your actual files: playlist syntax and repeat behavior depend on the encoder setup.

Install and configure an encoder
FFmpeg is one possible server-side encoder, but the exact command depends on the source format, codec, audio, playlist method, and desired output. Build and test the configuration against the selected media rather than assuming one generic command will work. The VM needs enough compute for the chosen encoding workload; when the source can be sent without re-encoding, test that path too.
YouTube transcodes the incoming feed for viewers. The server’s task is to deliver a valid, stable input stream, not to generate every playback rendition itself. Choose output resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate to match the source and the VM’s measured capacity.

Get the YouTube RTMPS URL and key
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or select the live event you intend to use.
- Copy the server/ingestion URL and stream key provided for that event. Enter those values in the encoder’s destination settings, matching YouTube’s supplied endpoint exactly.
- Use RTMPS where supported. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP tunneled through an SSL connection; its developer guidance specifies port 443. Refer to the YouTube RTMPS ingestion guide.
- Keep the stream key private. Do not put it in a public script, repository, screenshot, or log. Restrict access to the configuration that contains it, and replace the key in YouTube if you believe it has been exposed.
Set encoder output for a stable feed
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS input, supports up to 60 fps, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Exact bitrate recommendations depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate. Use YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrates for the full current matrix.
| H.264 output example | YouTube-published recommended bitrate | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | Encoder guidance, not a guarantee of VM network capacity. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps | Encoder guidance, not a guarantee of VM network capacity. |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps | Encoder guidance, not a guarantee of VM network capacity. |
These figures are YouTube’s recommended H.264 encoder bitrates, not independent measurements of a cloud VM’s usable upload throughput. Budget headroom above the configured bitrate, account for the stream’s ongoing outbound traffic and provider egress charges, and test the chosen instance under the real workload. If the upload path cannot sustain the feed, reduce the output bitrate or select a VM/network configuration that can.

Test the broadcast before leaving it unattended
- Start the encoder with a representative video that includes the motion and audio characteristics of the material you plan to loop.
- Check the event preview in Live Control Room and wait for YouTube’s stream-health status and messages. Resolve warnings before relying on the feed.
- Listen to the audio and watch the video for sync problems, black frames, unexpected stops, or transitions at file boundaries.
- Observe the stream and VM long enough to catch unstable throughput, encoder errors, or resource pressure. YouTube recommends testing before a stream and continuously monitoring audio and video; see its live streaming tips.
Plan supervision and recovery for 24/7 operation
A continuous stream needs operational care as well as a working encoder configuration. Treat these as implementation recommendations, not guarantees from YouTube or a cloud provider:
- Use a process supervisor or equivalent service manager to restart the encoder after a process failure, and inspect logs to distinguish a repeatable configuration error from a transient failure.
- Monitor the encoder process, VM resource use, disk space, outbound traffic, and YouTube stream health. Set alerts so a stalled or failed feed is noticed.
- Check that staged media remains available and that playlist transitions do not leave the encoder waiting on a missing file.
- Plan for VM maintenance, network interruptions, and account or event issues. Automatic restarts can recover a process; they cannot guarantee that YouTube will accept every reconnect or that viewers will see an uninterrupted broadcast.
- Consider a backup encoder only when the added cost and operational complexity make sense. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documents primary and backup ingestion addresses for supported workflows; that is not a promise of failover without interruption. See the liveStreams resource documentation.
Know what a continuous broadcast does—and does not—guarantee
The documented eligibility, ingestion, and encoder settings explain how to send a live feed; they do not establish a universal maximum duration for this particular prerecorded 24/7 workflow or guarantee that an archive will be retained indefinitely. Check the current YouTube Studio and Help guidance for your channel and event setup rather than assuming an endless broadcast or permanent archive. YouTube’s requirements and handling can change.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube receives no signal | Incorrect endpoint or key, encoder not running, or connection failure. | Compare the encoder destination with the exact RTMPS URL and key in Live Control Room; check encoder logs and outbound connectivity. |
| Stream health reports instability | The upload path cannot sustain the configured bitrate, or network performance fluctuates. | Measure the selected VM’s actual sustained outbound capacity, leave bitrate headroom, and test a lower output bitrate if needed. |
| Video appears but audio is missing or wrong | Source audio track or encoder audio selection/settings are incorrect. | Verify the source plays with audio and inspect the encoder’s selected audio input/output before restarting the test. |
| Feed stops at the end of a file | The encoder is not configured to repeat the file or advance through the playlist. | Validate the encoder’s looping or playlist configuration with the actual media and review logs at the transition. |
| Encoder exits and stays down | Process failure without supervision, resource exhaustion, or a persistent input/configuration error. | Inspect logs and VM resource use; configure a supervisor to restart recoverable failures and alert on repeated exits. |
| Stream reconnects but the event does not behave as expected | Event state, account eligibility, key, or channel-specific handling may be involved. | Check Live Control Room messages and current YouTube guidance for the channel and broadcast rather than assuming all events handle reconnects identically. |
