To change your own StreamVoodoo video quality, open the room, click the Settings icon at the bottom left, then adjust your resolution and bitrate. StreamVoodoo says 720p is the default, suggests 3–4 Mbps as a standard bitrate, and recommends 6 Mbps or higher when broadcasting. These controls change your feed, not everyone else’s.
Change your StreamVoodoo resolution and bitrate
- Open the StreamVoodoo room. Join the room where your video is being used.
- Open Settings. Click the Settings icon at the bottom left of the screen.
- Adjust your video resolution and bitrate. StreamVoodoo identifies 720p as the default resolution and 1080p as full HD. Its FAQ suggests 3 or 4 Mbps as a standard bitrate, and 6 Mbps or higher when broadcasting. The FAQ says you can change the setting at any time. StreamVoodoo’s official WebApp FAQ
- Check the result in your production. Make sure the feed remains stable at the selected settings before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.
Resolution and bitrate are separate controls: selecting a resolution does not automatically set a suitable bitrate. The FAQ describes these as settings for your own feed. Each participant can set their own quality; if you are operating as host or using Voodoo Switcher, its controls for individual participants are separate from the participant self-service steps above.
Choose a quality your setup can sustain
Resolution and bitrate
Higher resolution can show more detail, but it also requires enough camera capability, computer capacity, and network bandwidth to deliver reliably. Raising bitrate may improve the delivered image when the source supports it, but a setting that exceeds available capacity can make the feed unstable. StreamVoodoo’s suggested 3–4 Mbps standard starting point and 6 Mbps-or-higher broadcasting guidance are vendor-published recommendations, not a guarantee for every room, camera, or connection.
Codec compatibility and computer demands
StreamVoodoo describes VP8 as its standard format and says it is supported by every major browser. It describes H.264 as useful for mobile devices or devices that cannot handle VP8 or VP9, VP9 as a high-quality option that may not work for every participant, and AV1 as high quality and lower bandwidth than VP8/VP9 but requiring a powerful computer. The FAQ says Chrome with VP9 usually reaches the highest quality available through StreamVoodoo. Compatibility can vary across participants’ devices, so the highest-quality codec is not necessarily the most dependable choice for everyone. StreamVoodoo WebApp FAQ

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Limits are not universal targets
StreamVoodoo says a browser can use a camera configured up to 4K at 60 fps and up to 10 Mbps; its Mac app can go up to 20 Mbps. The FAQ says Ethernet is required for those high settings. These are vendor-stated limits, not assurances that every browser, camera, computer, or network can sustain them. If you are trying the highest settings, a wired Ethernet connection is a requirement according to StreamVoodoo, but it cannot by itself guarantee a stable feed.
For a YouTube broadcast, treat ingest settings separately
StreamVoodoo quality settings affect the participant’s feed into the production. YouTube’s live encoder settings govern the separate downstream stream sent to YouTube. Do not copy a YouTube ingest bitrate into StreamVoodoo’s participant-feed controls as if they were the same setting. YouTube’s guidance varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate; it advises choosing reliable quality for the available connection, testing before going live, and monitoring stream health. Follow its current encoder guidance for the actual YouTube output: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.

What the 24/7 wording does—and does not—establish
StreamVoodoo’s FAQ explains how to change a participant’s quality but does not describe a separate 24/7 quality mode. It also does not state whether a participant’s choice persists after reconnects, room restarts, or across a continuous session. If the room reconnects or restarts, check the feed settings again rather than assuming they were retained. The published information does not establish a best configuration for a particular camera, room size, or 24/7 workload.
Troubleshoot a quality change
- The picture is not sharper: Confirm that you changed resolution as well as bitrate; they are separate controls. Check that the camera itself is configured to provide the resolution you selected.
- The feed becomes unstable after increasing quality: Return to a lower setting your connection and computer can sustain. Test before the broadcast and monitor YouTube’s separate stream health if the output is going to YouTube.
- Another participant’s feed did not change: Your setting affects your own feed. Each participant must adjust their own quality, unless the host is managing participant quality through Voodoo Switcher.
- A codec does not work on someone’s device: Choose a compatible option. StreamVoodoo notes VP9 may not work for every participant; H.264 is described as useful for devices unable to handle VP8 or VP9.
- Quality falls after reconnecting: The FAQ does not say whether settings persist through reconnects or restarts, so reopen Settings and verify the selected values.
- You are aiming for the highest stated settings over Wi-Fi: StreamVoodoo says Ethernet is required for its highest settings. Use a wired connection and still verify that the computer, camera, and network can sustain the chosen quality.
