If you’re playing a playlist, use an OBS VLC Video source and check Loop Playlist. These are separate settings; Restart playback when source becomes active does not make a file repeat when it reaches its end.
First identify what OBS is playing
“On YouTube” could mean YouTube is the destination for your OBS livestream, or that you are trying to use a YouTube-hosted video as the media source. The instructions below cover OBS’s documented local-file and playlist sources; the title alone does not establish a YouTube-specific playback cause.
- One local video: use a Media Source. OBS’s guide documents it for common local video and audio formats.
- A playlist: use a VLC Video source, which supports playlists. VLC must be installed for this source to be available in OBS.
To check, select the item in the OBS Sources list and open its Properties. Confirm whether it is a Media Source or VLC Video before changing settings. OBS’s Media Sources guide documents both types and their playback properties.
Make one local video repeat
- In OBS, select the local-file Media Source in the Sources list.
- Open the source’s Properties.
- Enable Loop, then apply the change.
- Let the file reach its end and confirm that it starts playing again.
OBS documents Loop as the setting that plays a file again after playback completes; its documented default is Off. If it is off, the source can reach the end and stop rather than repeat.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Understand the separate restart setting
Restart playback when source becomes active controls what happens when the source is in the current scene and becomes visible. OBS documents this setting as On by default. It is useful when you want playback to start from the beginning as the source becomes active, but it is not a replacement for Loop at end of file.
For continuous replay of one local video, enable Loop. Change the restart setting only if you also want playback to restart when the source becomes active.

Loop a playlist with VLC Video
- Install VLC if it is not already installed; OBS will not make its VLC Video source available without VLC.
- In OBS, add or select a VLC Video source and configure its playlist.
- In the source’s Properties, check Loop Playlist.
- Confirm playback continues after the playlist reaches its end.
OBS documents Loop Playlist as On by default. If you use 64-bit OBS, the OBS guide specifies 64-bit VLC.
If it still stops after one video
- Check the source type: make sure you changed the Properties for the source actually used in the current scene, not a different item.
- Check whether it is one file or a playlist: use Loop for a Media Source file and Loop Playlist for a VLC Video playlist.
- Check VLC availability: if VLC Video is missing, verify VLC is installed and matches the 64-bit requirement when using 64-bit OBS.
- Separate activation from end-of-file behavior: if playback starts over when a source becomes visible but then stops at the end, check Loop as well.
OBS’s source API documentation includes media restart and stop controls, but it does not establish a particular user-facing shortcut for fixing this scenario. Avoid assuming that a video hosted on YouTube behaves like a local Media Source; the settings above are documented for OBS’s local-file and VLC playlist sources. See the OBS Source API Reference for the documented source controls.
