You cannot prevent YouTube from scanning an OBS live stream, and OBS has no setting that bypasses copyright checks. The practical way to lower the risk is to use material you own or have permission to stream, and, for third-party licensed content, ask the rights owner to add your YouTube channel to its Content ID allowlist before going live. A license alone may not stop a live interruption.
Why a copyright match can interrupt an OBS loop
YouTube says it scans all live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material in another live broadcast. If it detects a match, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop streaming the content. If the matched material remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. OBS sends the video; it does not control YouTube’s copyright decisions. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance explains this process.
This live scan is not the same as a Content ID claim on an archived stream. YouTube says Content ID claims for archived live streams are made after the broadcast ends, if it is archived. A post-stream claim therefore does not, by itself, mean that the live broadcast was interrupted. Content ID outcomes can include blocking, monetization, or tracking, and may vary by geography and the rights owner’s settings; none of those outcomes is guaranteed for a particular match. YouTube’s Content ID overview describes those options.
A Content ID claim is also not automatically a copyright strike. YouTube separately warns that a live stream can be terminated if the channel receives a copyright or Community Guidelines strike. Check the notice and your YouTube Studio dashboard rather than treating every match as the same kind of enforcement.

Before you build or start the loop
Use original or fully controlled material
The simplest rights situation is footage and audio that you created and control, including any music, images, clips, or other elements embedded in the recording. That reduces dependence on third-party permissions, but it is not a promise against mistaken or unrelated enforcement.
Check third-party licenses for both live and archived use
If your loop includes licensed music or video, confirm that the permission covers public YouTube live streaming and the intended archived or video-on-demand use. Review the permitted platforms, territories, duration, attribution rules, and any other restrictions. Keep the license and related correspondence where you can retrieve them. These are sensible contract checks, not a guarantee from YouTube.

Before broadcasting, contact the rights owner or its Content ID administrator and request that your exact YouTube channel be added to the owner’s Content ID allowlist for the relevant content and use. YouTube says a stream may still be interrupted when the creator has a license but the channel is not allowlisted. The owner’s administrative process can vary, so confirm that the request was completed and that the permission covers your planned stream.
Do not treat labels or short clips as automatic clearance
“Royalty-free,” “stream-safe,” attribution, or a short excerpt does not by itself establish that a use is cleared for your stream. YouTube’s August 15, 2019 post on manual Content ID claims advised creators to avoid unlicensed content, including incidental music, and named the YouTube Audio Library as a trusted source. That post concerned manual-claim policy; it said the update did not affect automated Content ID matches. A music source may be a sensible choice, but no source guarantees immunity from automated claims or live enforcement. Read YouTube’s 2019 policy announcement.

Run a technical preview, then monitor the live broadcast
- Prepare a rights-cleared loop. Replace material you cannot verify before scheduling or starting the broadcast. For licensed third-party material, obtain confirmation of channel allowlisting from the rights owner or administrator.
- Test the broadcast workflow. When your setup permits, run a private or unlisted technical preview and confirm that YouTube receives the stream. Google’s Life of a Broadcast documentation describes testing a broadcast and checking stream status in its API-managed workflow. That documentation does not mean every API configuration step is required for an ordinary OBS stream.
- Read any copyright warning and act on it. If YouTube identifies matched content, remove or replace that element promptly and follow the on-screen instructions. Do not assume that restarting OBS will clear a rights match.
- After a stop, check YouTube Studio. Look for strikes, restrictions, or other notices on the Studio dashboard and follow the listed steps to restore live-streaming access where applicable. A stream interruption and a later archived-stream Content ID claim have different timing and should be investigated separately.
When the stream drops without a copyright warning
A connection failure is a different problem from a copyright match. OBS Project says dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection or a bitrate your connection cannot sustain. Check OBS’s connection and dropped-frame indicators and troubleshoot the network or bitrate if they point to a transport problem. Those checks will not resolve a copyright warning or Content ID enforcement. See the OBS Help Portal for OBS troubleshooting guidance.

Copyright-interruption checklist
- Use original material or confirm permission for public YouTube live streaming and the intended archive.
- For third-party licensed content, ask the rights owner to allowlist your exact channel before you go live.
- Do not mistake attribution, a short clip, or a “royalty-free” label for proof that the specific use is cleared.
- If warned, remove or replace matched material and follow YouTube’s instructions; if the stream stops, review Studio for strikes and restrictions.
- If there is no copyright notice, investigate OBS connection and bitrate indicators separately.
