If YouTube Live Control Room says “Your encoder is sending no audio,” YouTube is receiving an encoder stream without an audio track. The Punjabi playlist itself is not identified as the cause. Check playback, audio routing and encoder settings first; then verify the outgoing signal, supported audio format and Live Control Room preview.
What the warning means
The message describes the stream reaching YouTube, not necessarily whether you can hear the playlist on your computer. The player might be audible locally while its sound is not selected or routed into the encoder. YouTube advises enabling audio in the encoder where applicable and sending one audio stream; multiple audio streams can cause ingestion problems. YouTube’s live streaming error guidance covers this warning.
Do not assume Punjabi language or music genre causes the error. Diagnose the audio path from the playlist player through the encoder to YouTube’s preview.
Fix it in order: trace where the sound disappears
- Test the playlist at its source. Play it locally and listen. If it is silent there, check that playback is actually running, the player’s output device is correct, and the player is not muted. Fix the source before changing YouTube settings.
- Check the encoder’s audio source and controls. Select the input that carries the playlist audio, make sure it is unmuted, and confirm audio is enabled. Some encoders have a separate audio checkbox. YouTube also recommends checking which audio and video sources are routed to the encoder. YouTube’s troubleshooting guide explains these checks.
- Listen to the encoder output. Use the encoder’s monitoring features, if available, to confirm that its outgoing stream has sound. Check for encoder errors and unusually high CPU load. If you record a local archive, listen to it too: a silent archive points toward the source or encoding path, while an audible archive and encoder output but silent YouTube preview call for checking the outgoing configuration and ingestion status. These comparisons help narrow down the fault; they do not identify a cause without inspecting your setup.
- Check audio track count and format. Configure one audio stream. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio. Its encoder settings page gives format recommendations: 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps for stereo; 48 kHz and 384 Kbps for 5.1 surround. YouTube states that 5.1 surround is supported only with AAC. Confirm the settings for your protocol and stream type against YouTube’s current encoder settings.
- Wait for the Live Control Room preview and listen. YouTube’s encoder workflow says to wait for the preview before starting the live stream. Make a test change, reconnect if needed, and verify the preview has sound before going live. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe the preview step.
- If the local signal is healthy, check the connection and encoder. Update the encoder. If its output sounds healthy but YouTube does not receive it, investigate the outbound connection. If checking the source and encoder does not isolate the problem, testing another encoder may help determine whether the current encoder is involved; the warning alone does not show that paid software is needed.
Use a quick signal check to narrow it down
| Where to listen | If it is silent | If it has sound |
|---|---|---|
| Playlist player | Check playback, mute and output-device selection. | Move downstream and check encoder routing. |
| Encoder output | Check selected source, mute state, audio enablement and encoder errors. | Check the local archive and YouTube preview. |
| Local archive, if you record one | Investigate the source or encoding path. | Compare encoder configuration with the stream received by YouTube. |
| Live Control Room preview | Recheck the outgoing audio configuration and ingestion status. | Audio is reaching the preview; keep monitoring after going live. |
This is a way to localize the break, not proof of a particular fault. YouTube recommends checking the encoder, sources, archive, errors, CPU load and outbound connection as appropriate. See its troubleshooting steps.

Prevent the warning on the next stream
- Test with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast, and check stream health messages before the event. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing the planned type of content.
- Wait for the Live Control Room preview and verify both sound and picture before starting the live event.
- Monitor audio and video quality during the broadcast; a successful preview does not replace ongoing checks.
- For the recommended upload-bandwidth headroom, YouTube advises keeping upload speed 20% above the total stream bitrate. This is connection guidance, not an audio-format setting. Check YouTube’s streaming tips.
Check copyright separately if the stream was interrupted
A missing-audio warning is not, by itself, evidence of a copyright problem. YouTube separately scans live streams for third-party content; a match can lead to a placeholder, interruption or termination if the content remains. If you have permission to use the playlist, ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel through Content ID, and check YouTube Studio for copyright notices rather than inferring a match from the audio warning. YouTube explains copyright issues with live streams.
