Keep the live output at 24 fps if your encoder supports it; you do not need to convert a 24 fps source to 30 fps just to stream it. YouTube does not publish a dedicated 24 fps live-bitrate row, so use its 30 fps figure for your chosen resolution and codec as a practical reference—not as a 24 fps prescription—and verify it with a test.
Recommended starting settings for a 24 fps live stream
For a pre-recorded video, set the encoder’s output to the source resolution and 24 fps when available. Choose a supported codec, use constant bitrate (CBR), set a two-second keyframe interval, and use RTMPS if your encoder supports it. YouTube’s live guidance allows up to 60 fps, but its bitrate table lists 30 fps and 60 fps tiers, not 24 fps.
- Frame rate: 24 fps, matching the source, if the encoder offers it.
- Resolution: Use the intended output resolution, such as 720p, 1080p, 1440p, or 2160p.
- Video codec: H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1, as supported by your encoder and workflow.
- Rate control: CBR.
- Keyframes: Every two seconds; do not exceed four seconds.
- Protocol: RTMPS where supported, for encrypted delivery to YouTube.
- Audio: AAC or MP3.
YouTube’s recommended advanced video settings include square pixels, progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, CABAC, and Rec. 709 for SDR.
What bitrate should you use for 24 fps?
YouTube does not give a separate live-ingest bitrate recommendation for 24 fps. The table below reproduces the 30 fps live tiers as a proxy for choosing a starting point. These are not 24 fps-specific measurements or guarantees; the YouTube Help page does not display a publication year, so check its current guidance when exact settings matter.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Resolution | AV1/H.265 minimum | AV1/H.265 recommended | H.264 minimum | H.264 recommended |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps (proxy reference) | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps (proxy reference) | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1440p at 30 fps (proxy reference) | 5 Mbps | 15 Mbps | 7 Mbps | 21 Mbps |
| 2160p at 30 fps (proxy reference) | 8 Mbps | 30 Mbps | 11 Mbps | 42 Mbps |
Start with the recommended value for your resolution and codec if your connection can sustain it. The minimum values are lower reference points, not targets that guarantee acceptable quality. Choose a bitrate your upload connection can hold steadily; YouTube’s streaming tips recommend keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom, with total stream bitrate fitting within available upload capacity. Leave room for audio and normal connection variation rather than setting the video bitrate at the full measured upload rate.
Configure and test the encoder
- Set the output format. In your encoder, select the source resolution and 24 fps output if available. Choose H.264, H.265, or AV1 if supported, and set rate control to CBR. YouTube’s Live Control Room generally detects the encoder’s resolution and frame rate automatically.
- Choose a bitrate reference. Use the 30 fps row for your resolution and codec in the table above as a starting reference, remembering that it is not a dedicated 24 fps recommendation. Reduce the setting if your connection cannot sustain it reliably.
- Set keyframes and delivery protocol. Set a two-second keyframe interval, never longer than four seconds, and select RTMPS if available.
- Check the remaining video and audio settings. Where the encoder exposes them, use square pixels, progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, CABAC, Rec. 709 for SDR, and AAC or MP3 audio.
- Run a representative test. Include audio and movement similar to the intended stream. Check the Live Control Room preview, stream health, and any messages before relying on the setup. YouTube’s general tips recommend setting up at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event.
- Confirm stability at the intended quality. If the preview or stream health indicates a problem, lower the bitrate or resolution and test again. Do not compensate for an unstable connection by choosing a bitrate it cannot sustain.
Do you need to convert 24 fps to 30 fps?
No. YouTube’s upload guidance says to encode and upload at the frame rate at which the content was recorded and lists 24 fps as a common frame rate. That upload advice is distinct from live-ingest bitrate guidance, but it gives no reason to convert a 24 fps source solely to make it a live stream. If your encoder cannot output 24 fps, check its supported output modes and test the available option; do not assume that changing to 30 fps will improve the result.

Software encoder or standalone hardware?
YouTube supports software apps and standalone hardware encoders. Its verified-encoder listings identify products as third-party tools, not products made by YouTube. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend professional-grade hardware for higher-production events, while noting that equipment a creator already has may be enough to get started. A standalone hardware encoder is optional for a simple pre-recorded-video relay; 24 fps itself does not require dedicated hardware.
Troubleshooting common problems
- You cannot find a 24 fps bitrate setting: YouTube’s live table has no 24 fps row. Set the output frame rate to 24 fps if supported and use the corresponding 30 fps resolution-and-codec bitrate tier as a starting reference.
- The stream buffers, drops frames, or reports poor health: The chosen bitrate may exceed stable upload capacity. Lower the bitrate or resolution, preserve the recommended 20% bandwidth headroom, and test again.
- The preview looks juddery or motion does not match the recording: Confirm the encoder is outputting the intended frame rate and that the source plays correctly. Test with representative motion before scheduling the stream; converting frame rates can change motion cadence.
- The stream does not connect securely: Confirm the selected protocol and encoder support RTMPS, then check the Live Control Room’s stream status and messages. RTMPS is YouTube’s recommended encrypted delivery option where supported.
- Audio is missing or out of sync: Check that an audio track is enabled, that the encoder uses AAC or MP3, and that the test includes the same audio setup as the intended stream.
