That repeats the file, but it does not guarantee a perfectly seamless boundary: the edit in the video and the playback-to-encoding chain can still produce a visible flash or pause. Test the real YouTube stream across a complete loop before relying on it.
Set up a single looping aquarium video in OBS
- Add the file: In your scene, add a Media Source and choose the local video file. OBS documents support for formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI and WebM. Confirm that the file plays correctly from beginning to end.
- Enable repetition: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. Keep the source visible in the live scene. Avoid switching scenes or toggling source visibility at the end of playback; those actions create separate transitions and are not needed for looping.
- Inspect the edit: Watch the final seconds and first seconds together. A sharp change in image, brightness, water movement or camera position will remain visible each time the file repeats. OBS repeats the file; it does not smooth or repair an abrupt edit.
The OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation describes the Loop setting as replaying the file after playback completes. It does not promise a frame-perfect boundary on every file, storage device, computer or OBS version. Treat a black-gap-free result as something to verify on your own setup, not an automatic guarantee.
Loop a playlist of aquarium clips
For several clips, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. OBS says VLC must be installed for this source to appear. Test every transition between adjacent clips as well as the transition from the last clip back to the first. Different frame rates, resolutions or visual edits between clips can make a pause or jump more noticeable.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live and set 4K60 output
- Prepare the YouTube stream: In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and use the stream URL and stream key in your encoder. Keep the key private. YouTube lists OBS among its verified encoder options and explains the encoder workflow in its encoder setup guide.
- Set the output format: Configure the encoder for 3840 × 2160 at 60 frames per second, and select a codec supported by both your encoder and YouTube’s ingest settings.
- For H.264, use YouTube’s 4K60 guidance: YouTube recommends 35 Mbps for 2160p at 60 fps, a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds), constant bitrate (CBR), and RTMPS. These values apply to the H.264 settings; do not substitute the separate AV1 or H.265 bitrate ranges without configuring that codec.
- Check the connection: Use a reliable upload connection, wired if practical. YouTube advises choosing settings appropriate to the connection and checking upload speed; its guidance does not specify a universal extra-bandwidth multiplier. Allow for the possibility that a connection that barely reaches the selected bitrate may not remain stable.
- Start a test and monitor it: Use a private or unlisted stream, check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages, and watch the actual YouTube player through at least one full loop. Check for dropped frames in OBS and stream-health warnings in YouTube. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health (live encoder settings; encoder setup).
Why a loop can still show a black flash or pause
- The footage itself has a discontinuity: If its final frame does not lead naturally into its opening frame, viewers will see a jump even when playback restarts immediately.
- Playback or encoding stalls at the boundary: OBS documents the repeat behavior, not a guarantee that every codec, file, drive and computer will decode and encode the transition without a hiccup.
- The source or scene changes: Hiding the Media Source or switching scenes at the end introduces a transition that is separate from the Loop setting.
- The stream or network drops frames: A local preview can look fine while the outgoing feed struggles. Check both OBS and YouTube’s health indicators and view the actual stream across the boundary.
Fix the footage edit first, then retest the complete playback chain. If the same boundary repeatedly fails, try a video file or storage setup that plays reliably, and verify the result again on YouTube rather than judging from the OBS preview alone.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What viewers should expect from a 4K live stream
YouTube automatically transcodes live ingest into formats for different viewer devices and connections. Sending 4K60 to YouTube therefore does not mean every viewer will receive 4K60; available playback quality depends on YouTube’s output options and the viewer’s device and network.
YouTube does not offer its low-latency optimization option for 4K/2160 streams, so expect normal latency. That is generally compatible with a mostly static aquarium feed, but viewers should not expect real-time interaction. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance covers latency and other controls.

DVR is a separate viewer feature, not a fix for a loop boundary. When enabled, viewers can pause, rewind and resume; for very long streams beyond 12 hours, DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable. Viewers also cannot seek to a point before the stream began. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.
Rights and reliability for a long-running stream
Use footage you own or have licensed for the intended public livestream. Check music and other embedded material separately: being able to loop a file technically does not give you permission to rebroadcast it. YouTube’s technical encoder guidance cannot establish rights for a particular aquarium video.

A 24/7 stream also depends on the computer, encoder, source file and network continuing to work. The OBS and YouTube documentation describes setup and monitoring, not guaranteed uninterrupted uptime. Plan to check stream health and have a way to respond if the encoder, connection or source stops.
