For one cartoon file, use OBS Media Source and enable Loop. For a sequence of local files, use VLC Video Source, add the files to its playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. A continuous stream also depends on keeping OBS, the computer, and the network running—and having the right to broadcast every cartoon. A playlist setting alone cannot provide uninterrupted operation or permission to redistribute the videos.

Before you set up the stream

Confirm you can broadcast the cartoons

Check that you have permission to livestream each cartoon on your chosen platform and in the territories where it will be available. Owning a file, having access to an episode, or being able to play it in OBS does not establish redistribution rights. YouTube’s livestream rules also require compliance with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service (YouTube live-streaming requirements).

Check YouTube eligibility

YouTube says livestreaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check the channel’s current eligibility before planning a broadcast; platform requirements may change.

Choose the correct audience setting

YouTube requires creators to designate whether videos and live streams are made for kids. Assess the content and its intended audience rather than relying on file type alone. YouTube identifies children as a primary audience and lists child-appealing factors such as animated characters and cartoon figures in its guidance on setting a channel or video’s audience.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Made-for-kids livestreams have feature restrictions, including live chat and personalized advertising. YouTube says contextual ads may still be shown, but do not plan on personalized-ad revenue or standard live-chat features for a stream designated made for kids. Review YouTube’s current guidance before launch.

Choose Media Source or VLC Video Source

Need OBS source What to know
Repeat one file Media Source Enable Loop; it is off by default.
Play a list of files VLC Video Source VLC must be installed. Match its architecture to OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.

OBS’s Media Sources guide lists supported video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. Format support does not guarantee every file will play correctly on every system, so test the actual files you intend to use.

Set up a multi-file cartoon playlist in OBS

  1. Install VLC if needed. If VLC Video Source is missing from OBS, install VLC. For 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
  2. Add the source. In the OBS scene where the cartoons should appear, add a VLC Video Source. Name it clearly, such as “Cartoon playlist.”
  3. Add the local files. Add the episodes to the source playlist in the order you want them played. Keep the files available at the same paths while streaming; moving or renaming them can break playback.
  4. Choose ordered or shuffled playback. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for the listed order, or turn it on to randomize playback. The documented default is off.
  5. Enable repeating playback. Turn on Loop Playlist so the list starts again after the last item. This option is on by default, but verify it in your source settings.
  6. Review visibility behavior. OBS documents the default as “Stop when not visible, restart when visible.” This concerns whether the source is visible in the scene—not whether the OBS application window is on screen. If scene changes could hide the source, inspect the visibility behavior and test what happens when it becomes visible again.
  7. Test the complete sequence. Preview playback, test a scene change, let the final item finish to confirm the playlist wraps, and restart OBS to check how the source behaves afterward. The documented controls do not promise seamless transitions or automatic recovery from a crash.
  8. Set the stream up with YouTube. In YouTube’s live-stream setup, use the correct stream key in OBS and choose the accurate audience designation. Run a controlled test before making the stream public.

Loop a single cartoon file instead

  1. Add a Media Source to the OBS scene.
  2. Select the local video file.
  3. Enable Loop. OBS documents this option as off by default; without it, playback ends when the file finishes.
  4. Check Restart playback when source becomes active. OBS documents this option as on by default, so a source that becomes active again may restart rather than continue from its previous position.
  5. Preview the file and test scene changes and an OBS restart before using it in a continuous broadcast.

Keep the broadcast running and diagnose common problems

OBS’s media settings control playback; they do not guarantee that a computer, power supply, network connection, or YouTube broadcast will stay up for 24 hours. Keep the machine and connection running, and monitor the stream. OBS documents a default network caching value of 400 ms for the VLC source; that is a setting, not an uptime or smooth-playback guarantee. No universal hardware or internet specification can be inferred without knowing the files, output settings, and connection.

Symptom Likely cause What to check
VLC Video Source is unavailable VLC is not installed or its architecture does not match OBS. Install VLC, using 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS, then check the source list again.
The single file stops at the end Media Source’s Loop is off. Enable Loop in the source properties.
The playlist does not repeat Loop Playlist is off or the files cannot be played. Verify the loop setting and test each playlist file from its current path.
Playback stops or starts over after a scene change The source became invisible, and its visibility behavior stopped or restarted playback. Inspect the source’s visibility behavior and test the scene transitions you plan to use.
Episodes play in an unexpected order Shuffle Playlist is enabled or the playlist order differs from the intended sequence. Turn shuffle off for ordered playback and inspect the playlist order.
The stream ends after OBS or the computer stops Local OBS playback depends on OBS and the computer continuing to run. Restore OBS and the broadcast, then test recovery procedures before relying on a long-running stream. The documented media controls do not provide crash recovery.
The broadcast is blocked or has restricted features Channel eligibility, audience designation, platform policy, or rights may be an issue. Check YouTube’s current livestream eligibility and audience guidance, and confirm rights for every cartoon.
