To loop a Tibetan singing bowl recording on YouTube Live with FFmpeg, loop the audio input with -stream_loop -1, pair it with a still image or looping video, and send the result to the RTMPS URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. The command below is a starting pattern, not a tested one-size-fits-all recipe: check the preview and stream health before relying on it.
FFmpeg command for a looping bowl-audio livestream
Replace the filenames and RTMPS destination with your own. The visual input can be a still-image video or another video loop. This example maps video from the second input and audio from the first:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i bowl-audio.mp3 -stream_loop -1 -i still-image.mp4
-map 1:v:0 -map 0:a:0
-c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -r 30 -g 60
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"
Use the actual stream URL and key provided for your YouTube encoder stream; do not publish the key or leave it in a shared script or screenshot. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update FFmpeg. The FFmpeg command-line and formats documentation describes its input/output model and RTMP muxing.
What the options do
-rereads file input at real-time pace, which is appropriate when feeding a live endpoint rather than processing the file as fast as possible.-stream_loop -1asks FFmpeg to repeat that input indefinitely. Put it before the corresponding-i; in the example, both the audio and visual input loop.-map 1:v:0 -map 0:a:0explicitly selects video from input 1 and audio from input 0.-c:v libx264and-c:a aacencode H.264 video and AAC audio.-pix_fmt yuv420pand-r 30set pixel format and frame rate;-g 60sets a 60-frame GOP, or two seconds at 30 fps.-b:a 128k -ar 44100set the example audio bitrate and sample rate. Theflvoutput container is used with the RTMP/RTMPS feed.
Check that your FFmpeg build supports the selected options and codecs, and that the inputs decode correctly. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder streaming. Its current guidance recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds; for stereo audio it recommends AAC or MP3, CBR, 44.1 kHz, and 128 kbps. These are YouTube guidance figures, not a guarantee that every source or FFmpeg build will behave identically. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance.

Choose and prepare the loop inputs
| Arrangement | How to use it | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Separate audio and visual files | Use the command above, mapping the visual input’s video and the bowl recording’s audio. | Confirm both files loop as intended and that the audio remains continuous when it repeats. |
| One prepared video with bowl audio | Use a single file that already contains the visual and audio, adjusting the inputs and mappings to match that file. | Check that the video duration and audio loop are suitable for the intended stream and that the loop boundary sounds right. |
YouTube’s cited encoder guidance does not prescribe one arrangement over the other. Neither FFmpeg’s loop option nor the command itself establishes that the join will be seamless. Listen to the actual boundary for silence, clicks, level changes, or mismatched duration. If needed, edit or crossfade the source before streaming, then check the encoded result.
This tutorial includes a visual track. Audio-only ingest is not established by the cited YouTube encoder materials, so do not assume an audio-only feed will be accepted without separately confirming it for your setup.

Connect FFmpeg to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or open the stream and obtain the encoder stream URL and stream key. YouTube explains the encoder workflow in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Replace
YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URLandYOUR_STREAM_KEYin the command with the values YouTube supplies. Keep the key private: it tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. If exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the command; see Manage live stream settings. - Run the command and check that FFmpeg is reading both inputs and sending the feed without errors.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before depending on the broadcast. For a scheduled stream, YouTube may require you to click Go live after the preview appears.
Clear the recording’s rights before broadcasting
The fact that a recording features Tibetan singing bowls does not establish who owns the sound recording or what uses are permitted. Use your own recording or one whose license explicitly allows the intended live broadcast and any archive you plan to retain. Keep the permission or license record. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions say content providers must have necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights.
Plan for stream duration and archiving
YouTube automatically archives streams shorter than 12 hours. A stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not rely on YouTube’s archive as the sole copy of a long session. If retaining the whole program matters, plan shorter sessions or make a local recording as a backup. The details are in YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

| Plan | Archive implication |
|---|---|
| One stream shorter than 12 hours | YouTube automatically archives it, according to its guidance. |
| One continuous stream longer than 12 hours | It may not be captured; keep a local recording if the full program matters. |
Troubleshoot common problems
- No video in the preview: Confirm that the visual input is valid and that
-map 1:v:0points to the input containing video. The example expects the visual file to be input 1. - No bowl audio: Check that the audio file decodes and that
-map 0:a:0points to its audio stream. Confirm the preview and stream health in Live Control Room. - FFmpeg rejects an option or codec: The command assumes a build that supports the selected flags, H.264 encoder, and AAC encoder. Check your build and input formats, then use supported equivalents while retaining YouTube’s applicable ingest guidance.
- Clicks, gaps, or volume shifts at the repeat: The loop flag repeats the file; it does not repair a poorly matched edit. Inspect and listen to the source boundary, edit or crossfade if needed, and verify the encoded output.
- YouTube does not accept the feed or shows a connection problem: Verify the stream URL and private key against Live Control Room, use the supplied RTMPS destination, and confirm that FFmpeg is actually sending data. If the key was exposed, reset it.
- The stream is live but no archive appears: Check its duration. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured; use a local recording when archive retention is important.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel that needs a prerecorded bowl track to keep looping without a computer at home, StreamNeo runs the uploaded video from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the file as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not stream from a camera. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
