Castr documents both scheduled prerecorded broadcasts and continuous playlist looping, with infinite playlist loop listed from Premium upward. Its plan limits and storage vary, so confirm that your intended playlist fits the plan you would buy. The 2026 listed Premium prices were $199.99 per month billed month-to-month and $166.67 per month billed annually; these are vendor-listed prices, not independent market figures, and can change.
When a browser studio or hardware encoder makes sense
StreamYard for short prerecorded segments and guest-led shows

Its listed individual prerecorded-stream durations—two hours on Core and four hours on Advanced in 2026—are not enough for one uninterrupted all-day prerecorded stream. AJA HELO Plus for standalone scheduled playout
YouTube’s verified encoder directory says the AJA HELO Plus can schedule prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. This is a hardware option rather than a cloud service: check current model availability, compatibility, and whether its scheduled-media workflow matches the playlist you need to run.
Running a playlist through OBS or another local encoder
A local encoder can work if you want production control and can keep the source computer and network available. OBS is one of the software encoders included in YouTube’s verified encoder directory. The general workflow is to configure YouTube Live Control Room, provide OBS with the stream destination and key, and send the playlist as the encoder’s video source. The exact playlist workflow depends on how the media is presented to OBS; OBS is an encoder, not a cloud-hosted playlist service.

- Check channel eligibility first. YouTube says a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days is required; first-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to enable. YouTube also states a minimum age of 16 for live streaming. Review the current YouTube live-streaming overview and confirm access in your account before scheduling the launch.
- Create or schedule the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Choose the stream’s audience setting there. Set the audience based on the content, not on the encoder or an assumption that YouTube will decide it for you.
- Copy the stream key and server details into OBS. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it. If you think it has been exposed, reset it in YouTube and update OBS with the replacement.
- Prepare the playlist as OBS input. Add the media playback source or sources you intend to use, confirm the order and repeat behavior, and preview the output before going live. Test transitions and the end of the playlist; a finished file or stopped source can leave the encoder sending a frozen image or no useful program.
- Start the encoder and verify the incoming stream. Start streaming from OBS, then check YouTube Live Control Room for the incoming signal and preview before starting or confirming the public broadcast. Keep OBS, the media source, the computer, and the network running for the full broadcast.
- Plan for interruptions. A local power loss, operating-system restart, OBS crash, network outage, or exhausted source file can interrupt the stream. Arrange monitoring and a restart procedure, and confirm the broadcast has resumed in Live Control Room after recovery.
No single bitrate, resolution, or keyframe setting is correct for every channel and source file. Avoid applying a guessed universal preset: use YouTube’s current encoder guidance for the chosen resolution and frame rate, and test the actual media and connection before a long broadcast.

Copyright, reused material, and monetization
Only stream videos and audio you have the rights to use. A playlist’s continuous availability does not establish that its contents are cleared for YouTube, and a streaming tool does not grant rights to music, footage, or other people’s work. Check permissions and applicable licenses before scheduling a long broadcast; use the copyright safety checklist as a practical prompt.
YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams and expects monetized content to be original and authentic. The policy identifies mass-produced, generic, repetitive, and reused content as areas reviewers assess. Cost and practical planning
Compare the recurring service cost with the cost and effort of keeping a suitable computer or hardware encoder, network connection, and recovery process available. A cloud service removes the need to leave a home computer encoding, while local software avoids a cloud playout subscription but puts operation and troubleshooting on you. Do not compare a one-off scheduled broadcast limit with an all-day looping plan as if they provide the same service.

Troubleshooting a playlist stream
- Live streaming is not enabled: confirm the channel is verified and eligible, then allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation as YouTube advises. Check the account for restrictions before launch.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder signal: verify the selected stream and key in OBS, check that the encoder is actually streaming, and look for a changed or reset key in Live Control Room. Reset an exposed key and update the encoder.
- The stream stops when a file ends: check that the playlist or playback source is configured to repeat and that its next item is available. A one-time prerecorded broadcast is not the same as a continuous loop.
- The broadcast stops after you leave the computer: a local encoder depends on its computer and network remaining available. Prevent sleep or shutdown and plan for power, connectivity, and encoder failures—or use cloud playout.
- The stream is not appropriate for the intended audience setting: revisit the made-for-kids decision in Live Control Room based on the content itself; do not rely on an automated audience guess.
- A service will not accept the playlist: compare the files, playlist length, storage, and continuous-loop entitlement with the exact plan. Castr’s loop entitlement and capacities vary by plan; confirm current terms with the vendor.
