Restream can automatically start a scheduled pre-recorded YouTube event, but its documented replay features do not provide an endless, gapless 24/7 stream. A single video can loop up to 10 times, subject to a 40-hour maximum, while a playlist can run for up to 24 hours and does not loop as a unit. You can schedule successive events as a workaround, but test the handoffs on your channel rather than assuming they will be continuous.
What Restream can—and cannot—keep live
Restream’s pre-recorded event feature lets you schedule an uploaded video to air automatically. Restream says the event airs at its scheduled time without requiring you to start it manually. That makes it useful for scheduled premieres or bounded replay blocks, not proof of an indefinitely repeating broadcast. See Restream’s pre-recorded event guide.

Restream lists looping on its Marathon and Media add-on plans. Its current schedule page lists Premier at $39/month with a 2-hour video library and 1080p, Marathon at $79/month with a 4-hour library and 1080p, and Media at $239/month with a 12-hour library and 4K. These are plan details published on the schedule page and may change; verify the current terms there before subscribing. Free users have Restream branding on the event thumbnail. For a channel that must appear continuously live beyond those event limits, the documented Restream features do not establish a perpetual, gapless operating mode. A chain of scheduled events may be worth testing, but it is not a guaranteed continuity feature.

Prepare a compatible video
Restream’s pre-recorded video requirements list MP4, MOV, M4V, and MKV containers; H.264 video; AAC audio; and a 2-second keyframe interval. Restream recommends 1080p, 30 or 60 FPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and 15–20 seconds of padding at the beginning and end. Check the destination platform’s bitrate guidance for your chosen resolution and frame rate rather than treating one bitrate as universal. See Restream’s video requirements.
- Container: MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV.
- Video: H.264.
- Audio: AAC.
- Keyframes: 2-second interval.
- Suggested baseline: 1080p at 30 or 60 FPS, CBR, with 15–20 seconds of intro/outro padding.
Restream’s YouTube guide lists a broader YouTube encoding range of 240p–2160p, up to 60 FPS, 3,000–40,000 Kbps depending on resolution and frame rate, CBR, and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval with a 4-second maximum. It lists AAC or MP3 audio. Platform guidance can change, so confirm YouTube’s current recommendations when preparing a new encode. The event workflow does not require you to keep a local encoder running; follow the file requirements for the media you upload.

Connect YouTube and schedule the event
- Enable YouTube live streaming first. In Restream, connect the YouTube channel by authorizing the account that owns it. Confirm live streaming is enabled for that channel. Restream says first-time activation requires phone verification followed by a 24-hour wait before the first live stream. If the channel has never streamed, do this before the event date. See Restream’s YouTube setup guide.
- Open the pre-recorded event workflow. In Restream, select Pre-recorded livestream, then choose Video for one file or Playlist for several. Restream also documents an Upload & Stream workflow for uploaded/imported files; use the pre-recorded event scheduling path when you need a timed event.
- Select or upload the media. Check that it meets the format, encoding, audio, and keyframe requirements. For a playlist, arrange the different videos in the intended order; do not expect the playlist to restart at the end.
- Enter the event details. Add the title and description, then choose the date and time. Enable YouTube as a destination. During event setup, YouTube privacy and category can be adjusted in the channel settings; check these before creating the event. - Set the intended run length. For a single video, decide whether the paid loop option’s 10-loop and 40-hour ceiling fits the event. For a playlist, keep the 24-hour maximum in mind and treat it as a one-pass sequence.
- Create and verify the event. After scheduling, confirm the event details and the YouTube announcement before sharing the link. Restream says the pre-recorded event airs automatically at the scheduled time. Monitor the event and chat if your audience needs moderation or interaction.
Restream says pre-recorded events do not support channel pairing. That limitation concerns this event workflow; it should not be confused with Restream Studio or encoder-based streaming.
Plan for YouTube archives and rights
Restream’s current YouTube guide says YouTube has no stream-duration limit, but YouTube archives only streams shorter than 12 hours. These are different considerations: a platform allowance for a live broadcast does not mean the replay will be available as an archive. Do not rely on the archive for a longer event without checking the current YouTube behavior. See Restream’s YouTube guide.

Make sure you have the rights needed to broadcast every video, including music, archival footage, photographs, and any third-party clips. A scheduled or pre-recorded format does not remove copyright obligations. YouTube may restrict, claim, mute, or remove content under its policies, and repeated or minimally changed material can also raise monetization concerns. Test continuity before calling it 24/7
If your plan depends on multiple events running back-to-back, schedule a short test sequence on the actual channel before relying on it for an unattended broadcast. Check the end of one event, the start of the next, the viewer-facing status, and whether the YouTube event links and chat behave as you expect. The official Restream material cited here confirms automatic starts and the finite limits, but does not promise gapless handoffs.

Troubleshooting scheduled pre-recorded streams
- The first YouTube event will not go live: Check whether live streaming has been enabled for the channel. If this is its first stream, complete phone verification and allow Restream’s stated 24-hour activation period.
- The file is rejected or playback fails: Confirm the container is MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV, the video is H.264, the audio is AAC, and the keyframe interval is 2 seconds. Re-export to a supported format if needed.
- The stream ends before the intended 24/7 period: Check whether a single-video loop reached its 10-loop or 40-hour limit, or whether a playlist reached its 24-hour maximum. Neither documented feature runs indefinitely.
- The playlist does not start over: This is expected; playlists do not loop as a unit. Duplicate items only if a longer one-pass playlist fits within the documented 40-video ceiling, and remember the playlist still has a 24-hour maximum.
- The replay is missing from YouTube: Restream’s guide says YouTube archives streams shorter than 12 hours. A longer stream may not be available as an archive.
- The transition between events has a gap: Restream does not document gapless handoffs for successive events. Adjust the schedule if appropriate, then repeat the test; do not assume a timing change guarantees seamless continuity.
