Next, check the player and device controls, and test YouTube’s Stable volume setting if it is available.
Is the problem this stream, YouTube, or your device?
Make each comparison at the same device output level. This is a way to narrow down the issue, not proof of a particular cause.
- Check the controls. Make sure the YouTube player is not muted and raise its volume. Check the browser or app volume, the device’s output volume, and its sound settings. YouTube recommends these checks for sound problems. YouTube Help: How to fix no sound on YouTube.
- Play another YouTube video. If other videos sound normal at the same output level, the radio stream’s level or mix may be the issue. If all YouTube audio is quiet, continue checking YouTube playback and device settings. This comparison suggests where to look; it does not confirm the cause.
- Play audio from another app or service. If that is quiet too, investigate the device’s sound configuration or output path. YouTube advises seeking device-manufacturer support when sound problems occur across multiple services. You can also try another supported device to help isolate the playback issue: YouTube Help: Troubleshoot streaming & video issues.
- Try the same stream in another browser or supported device, if available. If only this stream remains quiet while other content plays normally, contact the channel owner. The comparisons point toward a stream-specific issue, but do not establish a YouTube diagnosis.
Test YouTube’s audio controls
Stable volume
Open the video’s Settings menu and toggle Stable volume, if the option appears. YouTube describes it as balancing quiet and loud levels through continuous adjustment. It is enabled by default for supported videos, but is not offered for every video; YouTube says it is off for YouTube Music and official music videos. Since this control balances variation, rather than promising to raise an already uniform level, compare the sound with it on and off.
Voice boost
Voice boost reduces background sounds and highlights vocals to make dialogue easier to hear. YouTube offers it only on some videos on computers and TVs. It is intended for dialogue clarity, not as a guaranteed way to make music or a radio mix louder. Stable volume turns off automatically when Voice boost is on. If the stream sounds different on mobile
If an uploaded recording sounds fine on a computer but poor or nearly silent on a mobile device, stereo-to-mono compatibility could be relevant. YouTube explains that mobile playback may convert stereo audio to mono, and a mix that is not compatible can degrade or mute audio. Its creator guidance says to ensure the mix is in phase. This is a possible content-mix issue, not a listener setting or a confirmed explanation for every device difference. Restart and narrow it down
- Restart the browser or device, then check the player and output controls again; YouTube lists restarting as a basic troubleshooting step.
- If the problem continues across multiple services, contact the device manufacturer or try another supported device.
- If other content is fine but this one stream remains quiet across devices, report the issue to the stream or channel owner. That is a practical conclusion from the comparisons, not a documented YouTube diagnosis.
A slow connection is not an established fix for low loudness. YouTube’s cited guidance discusses connection speed in relation to buffering and video playback, not quiet audio.
