How to Run a 24/7 YouTube Gaming VOD Stream on a Low-Cost PC in India

Yes—you can loop prerecorded gameplay on YouTube Live with OBS on an existing low-cost PC, provided the computer, power supply, and internet connection stay reliable. Start with a short test and a conservative bitrate; a low purchase price alone cannot tell you whether a particular PC or connection can sustain a 24/7 broadcast. YouTube’s encoder workflow supports gameplay, and OBS can loop a local video or playlist. If you also need a full archive, plan around YouTube’s 12-hour limit: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured.

What you need before starting

  • A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube requires channel verification, no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and a streamer aged at least 16. First-time access may take time to activate, so check it well before your planned start. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
  • A PC that can run OBS and play the selected video continuously. OBS’s setup wizard considers the computer and network; there is no universal minimum PC specification established here. Test your own system rather than assuming any low-cost PC will manage 24/7 operation.
  • Gameplay footage and audio you have permission to broadcast. Rights can depend on the game publisher and included music. Credit or a disclaimer does not by itself establish permission.
  • A stable upload connection and reliable power. YouTube’s bitrate settings are encoder targets, not guarantees about an Indian household’s ISP service. Check your own connection and account status; no universal India-specific speed or uptime guarantee applies.

Set up a looping VOD stream in OBS

  1. Check livestream access. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and confirm you can create or schedule an encoder stream. Allow time for first-time activation.
  2. Create the stream. In Live Control Room, create or schedule a broadcast, choose the Gaming type if appropriate, and enter the title, description, visibility, and other metadata. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions are at Get started with live streaming.
  3. Copy the encoder details. Copy YouTube’s stream URL and stream key into the corresponding OBS streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. Reset it if it is exposed.
  4. Add the prerecorded gameplay. In OBS, add a Media Source and select the local video file. Enable Loop to repeat one file. Set the source’s audio behavior so the clip’s sound is audible when intended. For multiple files, add a VLC Video Source and configure a playlist; OBS says VLC must be installed for this source to appear. Enable Loop Playlist, and use shuffle only if you want the order varied. See OBS Media Sources.
  5. Set output for a reliable connection. Start with a bitrate your measured upload can sustain with headroom. YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations include 3 Mbps for 720p30, 6 Mbps for 720p60, 5 Mbps for 1080p30, and 6 Mbps for 1080p60. YouTube also recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS. These are configuration recommendations, not a promise that your ISP can hold the rate continuously. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions, and choose stability over resolution if upload fluctuates.
  6. Run a private or unlisted test. Start the encoder, wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room, then start the event there. Check picture, motion, audio, and stream health during a short test before making it public. OBS recommends testing before going live; its streaming guide explains the workflow.
  7. Plan monitoring and recovery. Keep a way to notice and restart OBS or the broadcast after a PC, power, or ISP interruption. A home setup does not become guaranteed 24/7 simply because it starts successfully; continuous operation depends on the actual PC, power, and network.

Choose resolution and bitrate from upload stability

Measure upload performance at the location and time you intend to stream, and repeat the test if it varies. Then select an encoder bitrate that your connection can sustain consistently rather than setting it at the best speed seen in a single test. Higher resolution can show more detail, but it also needs a connection that holds the chosen settings without dropped frames.

Output target YouTube H.264 recommended video bitrate
720p at 30 fps 3 Mbps
720p at 60 fps 6 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 5 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 6 Mbps

These figures are YouTube’s encoder recommendations; they are not minimum ISP plans or evidence that a given PC can encode at that setting. If the test shows instability or dropped frames, lower the bitrate or address the connection before increasing resolution. YouTube advises choosing quality that is reliable for your internet connection.

Keep the stream live and decide how to handle the archive

A single event that runs longer than 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; it does not promise an archive for a longer event. That means uninterrupted live continuity and a guaranteed full-length YouTube VOD are different goals. Read YouTube’s archive guidance.

  • If an archive matters, end and restart scheduled broadcasts before they reach 12 hours, allowing a margin for the actual event timing.
  • Consider recording locally in OBS as a backup. Confirm that the recording is being written and that the destination has enough free space for the bitrate, recording format, and retention period you choose; there is no single storage capacity suitable for every setup.
  • An external SSD or other drive for local stream recordings is optional, not a requirement for going live. Estimate the recording size and desired retention before choosing storage.

Copyright and monetization are separate from uptime

Having permission to broadcast footage, meeting YouTube Partner Program requirements, and having a stream stay online are separate matters. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and include rules on inauthentic and reused content. On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify its treatment of repetitive or mass-produced material; YouTube said the reused-content policy did not change. A looped gameplay broadcast does not automatically qualify for monetization or guarantee income. Eligibility, channel review, copyright status, and your original contribution matter. See YouTube channel monetization policies and its YouTube Partner Program overview.

Common problems and fixes

  • You cannot start a live broadcast: verify the channel, check for a live-stream restriction, and confirm first-time activation has completed.
  • YouTube does not receive the encoder: check that OBS has the correct stream URL and key, and that the event is configured in Live Control Room. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update OBS.
  • The video does not repeat: confirm Loop is enabled on the Media Source. For a playlist, check that the VLC Video Source is available, VLC is installed, and Loop Playlist is enabled.
  • There is no clip audio: check the source’s audio behavior and OBS audio meters, then verify that the intended audio device or track is active.
  • The stream drops frames or disconnects: reduce bitrate, retest upload stability, and investigate local network interruptions. A peak speed test result does not establish that the connection will remain stable all day.
  • The YouTube replay is missing or incomplete: a broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be archived. Use shorter segments and/or make a local recording if preserving the footage matters.
  • The broadcast stops after an outage: check whether the PC lost power, OBS closed, or the ISP disconnected. Arrange monitoring and a restart method; a local setup depends on those components recovering.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you do not want a home PC and connection to be responsible for keeping the VOD live, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos. Upload the gameplay recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. This shifts the streaming computer away from your home; check your footage rights and YouTube account eligibility as you would with an OBS stream.
