First confirm the channel is eligible for live streaming, and clear the music rights before going on air.
1. Check that your channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no livestreaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and choose the encoder workflow. YouTube describes encoder streaming as useful when a broadcast needs overlays or production equipment. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and setup guidance.
2. Build the radio scene in OBS
- Prepare your audio. Choose the radio program source you intend to play, such as a local recording or a supported playback source. Add it to an OBS scene and confirm it is audible in the preview without clipping.
- Add the station artwork. Add the logo or visual assets to the scene, position and size them, and check legibility in the full composition. For changing logos, use OBS’s current still-image slideshow controls if available in your installed version, or prepare a visual sequence as a looping media asset. The exact timed still-image rotation controls are version-sensitive; the OBS media documentation cited below does not specify their current settings.
- Preview the complete scene. Check that the audio and artwork appear together as intended before starting the broadcast. If you use a prepared visual sequence, verify its playback and repeat behavior in the preview.
OBS’s Media Sources documentation describes the supported repeat options: a Media Source can loop a local media file, while VLC Video can play a playlist with Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist controls. VLC must be installed separately, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. The documentation is dated 2022-01-11, so check the controls in your current OBS version rather than relying on assumed menu names.
3. Connect OBS to YouTube and go live
- Open the broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and follow its encoder instructions.
- Use the stream key and settings shown for that broadcast to connect OBS. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your channel.
- Start streaming from OBS, then monitor the broadcast in both OBS and YouTube Studio to confirm the picture and audio are reaching YouTube.
YouTube documents horizontal and vertical Live Control Room formats. This is an optional presentation decision for a radio stream, not a prerequisite. Third-party encoder dual streaming uses RTMP(S) and separate stream keys; consult YouTube’s current setup instructions if you choose that route.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
4. Clear music rights before launch
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A copyright match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt the broadcast, or terminate it. Use music only when you have the rights needed for this use. If you have a license for third-party content, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license by itself does not guarantee that the stream will avoid interruption. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams. This is platform guidance, not a determination that any particular license is sufficient.
5. Diagnose connection problems
Watch OBS’s connection indicator and dropped-frame counter while the stream is running. An increasing dropped-frame count together with a yellow or red connection indicator points to an unstable connection or one that cannot sustain the configured bitrate. OBS’s Help Portal provides general dropped-frame guidance. The sources cited here do not establish a numeric bitrate recommendation or a complete unattended 24/7 recovery plan, so do not treat a stable preview as proof of continuous operation.
