Possibly, but YouTube’s published guidance does not give blanket approval for every 24/7 prerecorded livestream—or expressly ban the format across the board. A channel still needs to meet livestream eligibility requirements, stream content it has the rights to use, and follow YouTube’s rules. If the content is made for kids, the audience setting must remain accurate and child-directed livestreams have feature restrictions. There is also a separate risk that YouTube may not archive a broadcast longer than 12 hours.
What YouTube’s guidance does—and does not—say
YouTube describes livestreaming with an encoder as one way to go live. Its public guidance reviewed here does not expressly prohibit every continuous prerecorded setup, but it does not promise that a particular channel or broadcast will be approved. Treat the format as conditional, not as a guaranteed permission. Before starting, verify that the channel is eligible and that the material complies with YouTube’s Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, and applicable rights requirements. Set the audience accurately
Creators are responsible for telling YouTube whether their content is made for kids. Choose the designation based on the content’s intended audience, not on which features you want to keep. YouTube says it may override a selection in cases of error or abuse. Its instructions explain how to set the audience at channel or video level: Set your channel or video’s audience.
Channel-level or individual livestream setting
A channel-level audience selection affects future and existing content; YouTube also provides a video-level setting for individual content. Consider the consequences of the applicable setting before scheduling or starting the livestream. Do not mark child-directed material as not made for kids to retain chat, advertising, or other functionality.

Features affected by made-for-kids status
YouTube lists live chat and live chat donations, personalized advertising, and other features as unavailable on individual made-for-kids videos or livestreams. A channel designated made for kids also loses certain channel-wide features. These restrictions are separate from whether the stream can technically run; a working broadcast does not mean all usual live features are available.
Check eligibility, rights, and compliance before going live
- Confirm livestream eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a livestream restriction in the past 90 days. Check the current status in YouTube Studio and follow YouTube’s setup instructions.
- Use the correct audience setting. Apply the made-for-kids designation whenever the content is child-directed. The setting does not become optional because the stream is prerecorded or continuous.
- Check rights for the entire feed. Make sure you have the necessary rights to stream every video and audio track, including music, clips, and material supplied by others. Prerecording or looping content does not remove rights obligations.
- Review the full content against YouTube rules. Livestream content remains subject to the Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. A compliant audience setting does not itself establish that the content or broadcast is permitted.
- Decide how to handle the replay. If a complete archive matters, keep a local recording rather than relying on YouTube to capture a very long stream.
Choose between a continuous stream and shorter sessions
The practical distinction is not simply “24/7 allowed” versus “24/7 banned.” A long-running feed may operate as a live broadcast, while its replay faces a separate capture risk. YouTube Help states: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” That is an archive warning, not a stated maximum livestream duration. The page does not establish that every stream under 12 hours will necessarily be archived, either. Read YouTube’s archive guidance before relying on a replay.

Use an encoder workflow, but do not mistake it for approval
YouTube lists encoder streaming among its live options. A software encoder can be used; dedicated encoder hardware is optional, not a YouTube requirement. An encoder sends the prerecorded program as a live feed, but the workflow itself does not guarantee channel eligibility, policy compliance, an archive, or access to made-for-kids-restricted features. Follow YouTube’s current setup directions for the chosen encoder and confirm that the stream key is handled securely.

What a continuous feed does not guarantee
- Chat: live chat and live chat donations are among the features YouTube lists as unavailable on individual made-for-kids livestreams.
- Personalized advertising: YouTube says it is unavailable for made-for-kids content; continuous streaming is not a basis for promising advertising revenue.
- A complete replay: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
- Approval of a specific stream: the public guidance does not provide blanket approval for every 24/7 prerecorded arrangement.
Common problems and what to check
- You cannot start the livestream: check channel verification and whether a livestream restriction occurred in the past 90 days, then follow YouTube’s current setup steps.
- Chat or donations are missing: check the audience designation and the restrictions YouTube applies to made-for-kids videos and livestreams. Do not change a correct audience setting to restore features.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: if the broadcast exceeded 12 hours, YouTube says it may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording when the archive matters.
- The stream is interrupted or its content is challenged: check the stream workflow and verify that you have the necessary rights to all video and audio in the feed. Follow YouTube’s live-stream restriction guidance.
