You can organize archived livestreams in a playlist through YouTube Studio, even though YouTube disables viewers’ “Save to playlist” feature on made-for-kids videos and live streams. First classify each stream accurately, then create the playlist and add the available videos in Studio. The creator’s Studio workflow and the restrictions viewers face are separate.
1. Set the livestream’s audience accurately
Choose the audience setting based on whether the content is intended for children and on child-directed signals in the stream—not simply because it is family-friendly or children might watch it. YouTube makes creators responsible for this selection; do not rely on automated classification. Individual video settings can override a channel-level audience setting. If you are uncertain about how the rules apply to your content, YouTube advises considering legal counsel.
For the factors YouTube identifies when determining whether content is made for kids, see Determining if your content is ‘made for kids’.
For a livestream you are setting up
- In YouTube Studio, select CREATE → Go live.
- Fill out the stream details and privacy settings.
- In the Live Control Room, select the audience setting that accurately describes the stream.
For an archived livestream
- In YouTube Studio, open Content → Live.
- Open the archived stream’s settings and update its audience designation if needed.
YouTube’s current audience-setting guidance is at Set your channel or video’s audience.

2. Create the playlist in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select CREATE → New playlist.
- Enter a clear title and description. YouTube’s Studio instructions specify limits of 150 characters for a title and 5,000 characters for a description.
- Choose the playlist’s visibility and ordering.
- Add the videos, then create the playlist.
You can manage playlist details and add videos from search, a URL, or your library using YouTube Studio’s workflow. See Manage playlists in YouTube Studio. Studio’s instructions describe the creator-side process; they do not guarantee that every made-for-kids archived stream will be available to add through every interface state. If a stream is not offered in your account, YouTube’s guidance does not establish another workaround.
3. Choose visibility and a useful order
| Visibility | When it fits |
|---|---|
| Public | Use when you want broad discovery and sharing. |
| Unlisted | Use when you want people with the link to access the playlist. |
| Private | Use when access should be restricted to you and selected people. |
These options govern playlist access; choose one that matches how you intend to share the collection. YouTube’s instructions for changing playlist privacy are at Change playlist privacy setting.

Arrange streams to help viewers navigate: for example, newest first for an ongoing archive, chronological order for a series, or grouped by topic or session. This is an editorial choice, not a YouTube requirement.
4. Explain the viewer limitation clearly
Made-for-kids videos and live streams have feature restrictions. YouTube lists “Save to playlist and Save to watch later” as unavailable for individual made-for-kids videos and live streams. Its viewer playlist guidance also says viewers cannot add made-for-kids content from a homepage, while content from search results can still be added. That search-results note describes a viewer-facing behavior; it should not be presented as a workaround for the creator’s Studio process.

If you also need an uploaded recording to keep a YouTube channel live, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not camera footage, and does not change YouTube’s made-for-kids classification or viewer playlist restrictions.
