Then schedule the YouTube live event and connect OBS with the event’s server URL and stream key. The playlist controls playback; OBS sends it live. Before you start, confirm your rights cover livestreaming the specific episodes in the territories where you plan to broadcast.
1. Confirm the cartoons are cleared for livestreaming
Being able to watch an episode online, or owning a personal copy, does not establish the right to rebroadcast it. Check that your license or other permission covers the actual episodes, livestream use, YouTube, and the territories where viewers may watch. YouTube’s live-stream terms put responsibility for obtaining the necessary rights on the content provider: YouTube Terms of Service.
Clear the complete program, not just the animation. Episodes may include separately licensed music, performances, or other material. If you do not have the required rights, leave that content out of the rotation.
2. Prepare the daily rotation
Choose the schedule and order
Decide whether viewers should see episodes in a fixed sequence or a shuffled rotation. For a predictable daily program, group files into the order you intend to play them and use ordered playback. For variety, enable shuffle; verify the source’s behavior before relying on it to meet a precise schedule.

Organize authorized files
- Keep only cleared episodes in the playlist.
- Use meaningful filenames so the rotation is easier to inspect and maintain.
- Make a note of the intended daily structure and check that the list contains the right files.
OBS documents support for common local video formats and a VLC Video source that can play multiple items as a playlist. Its Media Source can loop one file, but the VLC Video source is the documented option for a multi-file playlist. See OBS Media Sources.
3. Set up the playlist in OBS Studio
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires matching 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene you intend to stream.
- Open the source properties, add the authorized episode files, and arrange them in your desired order.
- Choose whether the playlist should play in order or shuffle, then enable Loop Playlist.
- Save the source and check that playback starts and advances between episodes as intended.
The exact presentation of source controls may vary by OBS version. Consult the OBS documentation for the version you use rather than assuming every release has identical labels or behavior.

4. Schedule the YouTube livestream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live event if you want a watch page and viewer reminders.
- Open the event’s encoder settings and copy its live server URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open the stream settings and enter the server URL and stream key for that event.
- Start streaming from OBS, then check the event preview in YouTube Studio before directing viewers to it.
Scheduling the YouTube event and configuring the encoder are separate parts of the workflow: the event provides the destination details, while OBS sends the playlist playback to it. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that is not a guarantee that a single broadcast can run indefinitely or that interruptions cannot occur. 5. Check the output and plan for interruptions
Before treating the channel as continuous programming, inspect the live preview and confirm picture, sound, episode order, and transitions at file boundaries. Keep in mind that local continuity depends on the computer, OBS, VLC, the media files, power, network connection, and configuration remaining functional. The OBS playlist controls alone do not guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 service.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may lead to a placeholder, a warning, temporary interruption, or termination. For licensed material, YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; having a license does not necessarily prevent an interruption. In a clarification dated July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed its “repetitious content” policy “inauthentic content” and said repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible. Local OBS playlist or hosted calendar?
OBS is the documented local route for a playlist with loop and shuffle controls. A hosted playout calendar is another possible workflow: playout.video documents playlists, looping, and calendar slots with recurring daily, weekly, and monthly entries. Its documentation establishes that those controls exist, not independent evidence of uptime or comparative performance. Check a provider’s current terms, capabilities, continuity arrangements, and pricing before relying on it.
