You can stream prerecorded sports podcast episodes around the clock by sending a looping playlist through an encoder to YouTube Live. Set up the channel and rights first, connect the encoder with the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, then preview and monitor the feed. Plan separately for replays: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so keep local recordings and do not rely on one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast for a complete archive.
What you need for a 24/7 podcast stream
YouTube receives the video feed from an encoder: software or hardware that converts and sends the stream. For prerecorded episodes, the encoder or playout system supplies a looping playlist; a live microphone or webcam is not required unless you plan to add live hosts or new production.
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream.
- A playlist of episodes and any accompanying visuals, cleared for the intended use.
- An encoder or cloud playout service that can loop the playlist and send a continuous feed.
- A reliable upload connection if you operate the encoder locally.
- A separate local recording or archive plan if you need durable copies of episodes or broadcasts.
YouTube describes encoders as software or standalone hardware and names Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streams of prerecorded video. That is a documented use case, not a reliability endorsement or guarantee of uninterrupted delivery. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains the general workflow.
Check channel eligibility before preparing the launch
YouTube’s current Help guidance says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Streamers must be at least 16. If livestreaming is being enabled for the first time, activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave it until launch day. See YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility and getting-started guidance.

Clear every part of the episode playlist
Review each episode and every element that will appear in the live feed: interview clips, game audio, music beds, theme music, and third-party images or video in the visual presentation. YouTube’s terms make the creator responsible for having the necessary rights for streamed content, including applicable music rights. As YouTube’s livestream terms put it, “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world.” Read the YouTube Terms of Service and confirm permissions with the relevant rights holders.
Permission to publish an episode as a podcast does not automatically establish permission for a YouTube livestream, a saved replay, or access in every territory. YouTube scans live streams for third-party material; a match can lead to a placeholder, warning, interruption, or termination, and restrictions may follow a strike. Even licensed material may require the rights holder to allowlist your channel through Content ID for the live feed to proceed without interruption. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Rights checklist
- Identify the owner and permitted uses for music, clips, game audio, images, and video in every episode.
- Confirm that the permission covers live streaming and any replay or archive you intend to make available.
- Check any territorial limits and whether the rights holder must allowlist the channel in Content ID.
- Remove or replace material whose live-stream rights are uncertain before putting the episode into the loop.
Choose how to run the playlist
A local encoder runs on a computer or standalone hardware that you operate. You control the source machine and playlist, but the machine and network connection have to remain available for the feed. A cloud playout service runs the playlist remotely, reducing dependence on a computer at home. Check a provider’s current pricing, plan limits, playlist controls, recovery behavior, recording workflow, and support before relying on it; the available YouTube guidance does not compare services or verify their operating terms.
For a broad overview of encoder setup, use YouTube’s encoder guide. Select a system that can reliably repeat the source files and maintain the intended output. Test with your actual episodes and visuals before scheduling a long run.

Connect the encoder to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream there. Check the current stream details and output settings shown for that broadcast.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder. The URL identifies where to send the feed; the key lets YouTube accept it. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the feed. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe this connection.
- Load the playlist and configure looping. Confirm the order, transitions, and behavior when the final item finishes. If the stream is meant to run without a host, check that no episode ends in a state that stops playout.
- Start a private or otherwise controlled test, then inspect the preview. Confirm that the intended video and sound reach Live Control Room before making the stream public.
- Launch and monitor the watch page. Check playback on the channel and on a mobile device, listen for audio problems, watch for interruptions, and verify that any local recording file is growing.
YouTube recommends leaving headroom in upload capacity, previewing the stream, checking playback, and monitoring audio and video. A network disruption can break a locally sent feed; consult YouTube’s live-streaming troubleshooting guidance when the encoder or connection reports trouble.
Design the broadcast around YouTube’s replay limits
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is an archive warning, not a stated maximum broadcast duration. If individual YouTube replays matter, plan sessions shorter than 12 hours and retain local recordings rather than assuming YouTube will save a continuous 24/7 feed. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.

Rewind is a separate issue. YouTube says DVR lets viewers pause and rewind, but for very long streams it may be limited or unavailable when a stream is longer than 12 hours. A single continuous broadcast can therefore make both replay availability and in-stream rewind less dependable. The details are in YouTube’s DVR guidance.
Keep an independent recording
If you need a dependable copy, record locally while streaming and check that the file continues to grow. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup. An external drive is one possible destination; choose its capacity based on the recording format and how long you intend to retain files. The platform guidance does not prescribe a drive type or size.

Quick Recap
Troubleshoot common launch and continuity problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a livestream | The channel is not verified, has a live-streaming restriction, or first-time activation is still pending. | Check channel eligibility in YouTube Studio and allow up to 24 hours for first activation. Confirm that the account meets YouTube’s age requirement. |
| YouTube receives no encoder feed | The stream URL or key is missing, incorrect, or entered in the wrong output fields. | Copy the current URL and key from the correct Live Control Room broadcast into the encoder; check the encoder’s connection status and preview. |
| The feed drops or becomes unstable | A local network interruption or insufficient upload headroom can interrupt delivery. | Check the connection and encoder status, reduce competing upload traffic, and leave bandwidth headroom. For a local workflow, verify that the computer remains on and the encoder is still running. |
| A live feed is interrupted after a content match | Third-party music, clips, or other material triggered YouTube’s copyright systems, or a permission requires Content ID allowlisting. | Review the matched material and rights. Remove or replace uncleared content, or ask the rights holder about the required allowlist; do not assume a podcast license covers livestream use. |
| The 24/7 broadcast has no complete replay | YouTube may not capture streams exceeding 12 hours. | Keep a local recording and, where YouTube replays are important, schedule shorter sessions rather than relying on one unbroken stream. |
| Viewers cannot rewind far enough | DVR may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. | Set expectations for a continuous feed and consider shorter broadcast sessions if viewer rewind is important. |
