Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteA continuous church stream uses about 64.8 decimal GB per day at 6 Mbps or 108 decimal GB per day at 10 Mbps, before protocol overhead. Those are calculated estimates for the church encoder’s upload to YouTube—not the amount each viewer downloads. The estimates use YouTube’s recommended H.264 live-ingest bitrates for 720p30 and 1080p30, respectively.
Daily and monthly data estimates
For an uninterrupted live stream, estimate the encoder’s outbound data with this formula:
Bitrate in Mbps Ă— 10.8 = decimal GB per 24 hours
The calculation assumes the bitrate stays constant for all 86,400 seconds in a day. YouTube’s current guidance recommends constant bitrate encoding for its listed RTMP/RTMPS settings; actual traffic can vary and protocol overhead adds to these estimates.
| Stream setting | YouTube-recommended ingest bitrate | Estimated encoder upload per day | Estimated encoder upload per 30-day month |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps, H.264 | 6 Mbps (YouTube Help recommendation) | 64.8 decimal GB | 1.944 decimal TB |
| 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 | 10 Mbps (YouTube Help recommendation) | 108 decimal GB | 3.24 decimal TB |
The monthly figures assume a 30-day month and are calculations from the stated bitrates, not amounts published by YouTube. YouTube’s recommendations are reference settings, not a measurement of a particular church’s stream. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How the conversion works
At 1 Mbps, a continuous 24-hour stream transfers 1,000,000 bits per second Ă— 86,400 seconds Ă· 8 bits per byte = 10,800,000,000 bytes, or 10.8 decimal GB. Multiply that daily amount by the stream bitrate to estimate outbound data.
What the estimate counts—and what it does not
These figures count the live feed sent from the church’s encoder to YouTube. They do not represent total viewer downloads. YouTube transcodes live streams into different playback formats, so a viewer’s data use depends on the format played and how long that person watches. There is no single viewer-use figure without those details. YouTube describes this transcoding in its live-stream guidance.

Looping a recorded sermon does not make a live stream a one-time transfer of the original file. While the channel is live, the encoder continues sending the video feed at its live bitrate. An uploaded sermon’s file size is therefore not a substitute for estimating continuous live-ingest traffic.
Live stream versus on-demand playlist
If the church uploads sermons as ordinary on-demand videos and embeds or playlists them, that is a different workflow: the figures above apply to a continuously encoded live stream, not to the file upload or later on-demand viewing.

Plan enough upload capacity
YouTube recommends that available upload bandwidth exceed the total outgoing stream bitrate by 20%. For one stream at the example settings, plan for approximately 7.2 Mbps of available upload for a 6 Mbps stream or 12 Mbps for a 10 Mbps stream. These are capacity-planning figures based on YouTube’s recommended headroom, not extra stream data added to the bitrate calculation. Account for other simultaneous streams and household or church network traffic as well. See YouTube’s network recommendations.
YouTube recommends Ethernet when streaming from a computer. A wired connection may help reliability, but it does not lower the encoder bitrate or the data transferred at that bitrate. Test the setup and monitor stream health; YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance covers connection and stream-health checks.

Keep a sermon stream running without leaving a computer on
For a do-it-yourself setup, a church can loop sermons through a live encoder, configure it for YouTube’s recommended ingest settings, and maintain a stable connection with adequate upload headroom. That approach uses the encoder bitrate continuously, whether the source sermon repeats or changes.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing at home has to stay on. Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, without re-encoding or quality tiers, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
