You can use VLC to prepare and loop worship videos, but a VLC playlist alone does not send a 24/7 broadcast to YouTube. To go live, YouTube must receive a compatible encoder feed configured with your stream URL and key. The key steps are to clear broadcast rights, confirm livestream access for your channel, create the stream in YouTube Studio, configure and test the video source and encoder, then monitor the connection. VLC’s exact setup depends on its installed build; the available official documentation does not establish a current, reliable end-to-end VLC menu path for YouTube.
Before you set up the stream: check channel access and video rights
Confirm that your channel can livestream
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a livestream restriction in the previous 90 days. Check access in YouTube Studio before spending time configuring VLC or another encoder: YouTube live streaming tips – Computer.
Clear rights for every part of every video
Having a copy of a worship video, or permission to play it in a room or service, does not by itself establish permission to livestream it worldwide. Check rights for the video, the underlying composition, the sound recording, and any other included material. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions put responsibility on the broadcaster to hold the necessary rights, including music licensing rights. Confirm with the relevant rights holders and license issuer that the permission covers livestreaming on YouTube and any resulting archive. Attribution alone is not a substitute for those rights.
Prepare a playlist that VLC can play and repeat
VLC is free, open-source software that plays media and supports various streaming protocols; see the official VideoLAN VLC page. Make an ordered playlist from files you have cleared for broadcast. Play it through locally first, checking that each video opens, audio is present, and transitions behave as intended. Enable the repeat or loop behavior you want and verify what happens at the end of the list.

VideoLAN’s VLM documentation describes broadcasts with multiple inputs and an output, with loop behavior that restarts the input list after the final item; see the VLC project documentation change. That describes VLC’s broadcast concepts, not a guaranteed YouTube-ready configuration in every VLC build. The official material does not establish a current, precise graphical-menu procedure that works end to end. Do not assume that enabling playlist repeat makes the playlist an internet livestream: the chosen output must actually deliver a compatible feed to YouTube.
Create a YouTube stream and connect an encoder
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or select the stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the workflow.
- Copy the destination details. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the selected stream. Enter the URL as the encoder’s server or destination and the key in its stream-key field. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Configure a compatible encoder output. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists CBR and supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval (not over 4 seconds). YouTube recommends RTMPS where supported. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance. Select only settings your installed encoder can produce; the listed options do not prove that every VLC build can output them or connect directly.
- Start the feed, then inspect the preview. Start the configured output and wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Check picture, sound, stream health, and whether the video is the intended one before making the event live to viewers.
- Verify the public playback. Once live, check the viewer-facing watch page as well as the control-room preview. A preview alone does not confirm that the whole playlist, audio, or public playback behaves as expected.
Test the full loop and plan for interruptions
Before relying on a nonstop broadcast, test the entire chain: playlist order, transitions, end-of-list behavior, audio continuity, YouTube preview, public playback, and what happens after the encoder or network connection stops and restarts. YouTube recommends testing in advance, checking the preview, and monitoring stream quality. Its guidance does not guarantee uninterrupted operation for a 24/7 stream, so arrange someone to monitor it and know how to restart the source and encoder.

For a computer-based broadcast, network capacity is part of the setup. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with 20% headroom over the combined stream bitrate; this is platform guidance, not a measured guarantee for your connection. Measure outbound upload capacity and account for other devices sharing the connection. Details are in YouTube’s streaming tips.
Do not assume a single complete archive will cover a 24-hour feed. YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that guidance does not promise one archive for a longer stream or specify a continuity plan for a nonstop broadcast. Confirm current platform behavior and your archive needs before you go live.

When VLC does not connect directly
If the installed VLC build cannot send an output accepted by YouTube, or the connection is unreliable, use another compatible encoder path with the same YouTube server URL and stream key. Verify that the alternate setup loops the playlist, handles the key securely, and exposes enough status information for you to monitor the broadcast. Test it in Live Control Room before relying on it. The available official documentation does not establish one universally compatible VLC configuration, so do not guess at menu labels or assume that a setting available in one build exists in another.
Common problems and fixes
- No livestream option or stream access: Check channel verification and whether a livestream restriction has occurred within the preceding 90 days. Resolve eligibility in YouTube Studio before debugging VLC.
- YouTube does not receive a feed: Confirm that the encoder is running, the server URL and key belong to the selected stream, and the output protocol and settings are supported by both the installed encoder and YouTube.
- The feed arrives, but the video or audio is wrong: Inspect the encoder preview and test the playlist files individually. Check the selected input, audio track, and transitions before making the stream public.
- Playback stutters or drops: Check upload capacity, leave the recommended 20% headroom above combined stream bitrate, and consider other devices using the same connection. Monitor stream health and test recovery after an interruption.
- The playlist stops after the final video: Check the repeat or loop behavior in the installed VLC setup, then test the full list through its end. VLC’s documented loop behavior does not guarantee that every output configuration will keep a YouTube feed connected.
- A video is muted, blocked, or otherwise restricted: Review the rights for the composition, recording, and video, and check YouTube’s notices. A local playback test cannot establish that you have worldwide livestream rights.
